That's weird...we used to get Kohl's commercials. I don't even think there's one in my state!
But about Macy's--during their most recent acquisition they acquired Burdine's, a regional chain that I believe was only found in Florida. Anyways, our local stores were at first converted to a Burdine's-Macy's format, and are now just Macy's. Exactly the same, but with a different name.

I have a few Macy's around but not in my area of Connecticut
Located in:Crystal Mall,Waterford
Danbury Fair Mall
and problably a lot more in Connecticut but don't know all locations
Its funny that we get "Christmas Tree Shops" ads but there are not really any located in my area of Torrington only in Manchester,Orange, and Danbury but we don't get Macy's ads even though there are plenty of Macy's in Connecticut and they're a more nationally known retailer yet they don't advertise! why?
BTW What was Macy's very first logo anyone know?
o u live near the Danbury Fair Mall lol i go there alont they have Sears JC Penny Macys Filene's Lord & Taylor theres also a to story H&M and a Old Navy and there a shopping center out side the mall that has Toys R Us Barns and noble and i believe theres a chrismas tree shop there too:yup:

I don't live right next to it but I do live a few miles away from it.
I live in Torrington,CT in Lichfield County a few miles away from Danbury.
However it doesn't take that long to get to Danbury Mall from here you just take the Highway I believe Route 8 into Danbury.
I'm still puzzled why Macy's doesn't advertise though.
coo it thw only mall i go to that dosen have such an out dated look
and hear the danbury Macys
hear anouth pic close up
has Macys donr any outher logo besides the to i know of? and when were they founded?
Not a whole lot of people who shopped at the former Lazarus stores or had lived in Columbus don't call it Macy's. They called it Lazarus.:insane: Note my signature below.
QuoteOriginally posted by 76BraldorZayKamesfanBBTB
Lazarus fan is going to LOVE this one LOL
I'm not kidding this is an ACTUAL logo can you believe it?
Lazarus-Macys
Department stores do this all of the time when they are changing names. In Buffalo over the years, we've had our share...
Hengerer's - Sibley's (complete with separate stylized logos from each company; credit cards were even issued with the dual logo)
Sibley's-Kaufmann's, Kaufmann's-Sibley's, then just Kaufmann's (the logo for Sibley's was put in the same font as the Kaufmann's logo for newspaper ads)
AM&A's - The Bon-Ton, then The Bon-Ton - AM&A's, finally just The Bon-Ton (the newspaper ads used to gray out the AM&A's logo a little bit more each week until one week it was gone)
I'm sure in the near future, we'll see a Kaufmann's-Macy's combination.
Lazarus-Macy's is the only time I actually ever saw bags, and actual store outside signage get involved in the dual-name game.
Filenes might become Bloomingdales i though and Bloomingdales is one of the most upscale Dept store i have ever been to and i really like it lol but its not cheep though

As far as the dual name-game goes, my local Burdines had some interior signs and bags that proclaimed it to be "Burdines-Macy's" for about a year. It is now just Macy's...

For whatever reason, retail management thinks that the dual names help out the consumers transition to the new name without much disruption. What typically transpires is that the new store takes over, dismantles anything that resembles the old store, and succeeds in aggravating the shoppers.
I mean, Bon-Ton spent a year being called some sort of combination of AM&A's and The Bon-Ton in western New York before just being "The Bon-Ton" and people still hated what the chain did to "their" AM&A's.
And besides, in markets where a chain has been around for decades, people still use the old names anyway.
An example of the dual logo from 1981:
LOL--the only thing different about my Burdines now that it's a Macy*s is the signage...exactly like it used to be! Except that they are replacing the at least 40 year-old escalators...
QuoteOriginally posted by truviking05

And there lies a reason why companies like Federated and May no longer have any differentiation between their various divisions. Federated has spent years now making Lazarus, Macy's, Burdine's, The Bon Marche, etc. basically the same store. Same with May's stores...
Now they change the names, and it doesn't really matter because Burdine's was basically already Macy's.
Sure they are more profitable that way...but it's a little boring for the consumer...oh well.

Bon-Macy's
is this Bon Ton and Macy's put together?
LOL can't help laughing about it!
It's "The Bon March?" and Macy's
hears teh Danbury Mall Macys
so what do u guys think of macys expanding
i think its good for them because fredrated is geeting rid of alll teh cookey cutter stores and i hope they keep lord & taylor and Marshel feilds name witch im sure they will and this will also be good because theres not a macys in evrey state and there a affordbul dept store even more then sears and jc penny
I don't know if I'd say Macy's is more affordable than Sears or Penney's...if anything, Macy's has much more expensive goods. Now, I'm not saying that the clothes aren't BETTER at Macy's - I'm just saying that Sears or JCP offer cheaper clothes.
Personally, I don't think I've worn clothing purchased at Sears since I was 5 years old and I can't remember my last non-socks purchase at JCP. Macy's is much more my style of clothing.
I guess it will be pretty cool to have a consistent choice (Macy's) across the country - but it's pretty boring when basically every mall in America will be anchored by Macy's, JCP, and Sears.
ok well macys is not as cheep as sears or JCPennny but they always have sales witch makes sthe stuff cheep my sister got a pair of shouse from there for $30.00 th eorgel price was $100.00 sears dosent have such great clouths they just sell good electronices and hard were and such JC Penny sells smoe good clouths but i can never really sind anything i like from there

I went to Albany 2 days ago and saw 2 macy's, one in Colonie CEnter and one in Crossgates. The one in Crossgates looked like the one in the Fox run mall in Newington NH
that's because the Crossgates and Newington locations were both former Jordan Marsh stores :) Could you get a picture of the Newington location at all?

the one in newington looks exactly like the one in crossgates. I can't find a way to put a picture on.
The macy's in colonie centre had macy's logo where it was a labelscar. taht was teh first time I saw a macy's that was always a macy's.
Isn't the Macy's at Colonie actually not the original location, but part of an expansion? I think the original Macy's store is actually part of the mall now.
You are correct jmn3! The current Macys at Colonie Center was opened in 1991 when the mall was expanded with the food court, and 30 to 40 new stores. The newer Macys was a prototype store, featuring 3 levels, and a different layout. The Danbury, Connecticut store featured some of these styles, but, it was opened earlier than the Colonie store. The original Macys, was located near the center of the mall in the back. The original Macys is now more mall stores, and part of the hallway I believe. So, in reality, Colonie Center has always had a Macys, but two different stores. Also, on another note, the Sears at the other end of the mall has been there from the beginning as well(1966), and still features some of its 60's styling(the lighting, among other things), but it is not as noticable as it once was.

Come to think of it, I read an article about MAcy's moving to another part of the mall over 10 years ago and the old macy's became part of the mall and the old macy's was 180,000 square feet and the new onme is 300,000 square feet.
OK - Here's the location description - if you start at the Sears end of the mall and walk away from Sears - about 1/3 of the way down look for Friendly's on your right. About 1 or 2 stores past that, you'll see a hallway to the right that leads to restrooms. Now standing with that hall to your right, imagine a wall directly in front of you, stretching across the walkway - that's the front of the old Macy's. Everything from that point on was either converted from the old store or added on when Macy's moved to their current location (this includes the Boscov's (formerly Steinbach's), the food court, and more).
ok, cool. Thank you for clearing that up for me BillyGr. I always thought the old Macys was now where Boscovs was. Thanks for your information. Also, do you know what was in where Christmas Tree Shops is now? Thanks!
Macy's in South Portland, a former Jordan Marsh.

I know that there was a sporting goods place (Hermans?) that moved into the mall from across Wolf Rd (about where the B&N and smaller shops are now) and I believe that it was in that location - after that it was a boat sales place or something for a time (I think) - Christmas Tree expanded the space out into the parking lot when they opened (as did Boscov's when they came in to the Steinbachs - that's why if you go around that side of the mall you'll see the post office kind of "hidden" in an inset between the two (Christmas Tree & Boscov's) - it's also why there are so few parking spots on that side.
P.S. - I think if you were to enter the mall using the doors alongside the post office and walk to the main hallway, you'd be pretty much over the hallway I mentioned on the lower floor - or just to your right would be the upper level of Macy's old store.

MY nearest macy's in bedford NH, opened in 1966, outside the bedford mall near the wayferrer inn, and 166,000 square feet. looks like that. that macy;s in south portland was a jordan marsh, opened in 1968 (before the first part of the maine mall: sears and the stores between sears and jordan marsh, opened 1970 or 71) The ones in warwick (opened 1971, 309,000 square feet, warwick mall) ri; braintree (303,000 square feet, opened 1969, south shore mall) , peabody (301,000 square feet, opened 1958, north shore mall), and burlington (opened 67, square feet unkown, burlington mall) mass look like that and they were all Jordan MArsh and I saw the old Jordan marsh in downtown worcester, it was said to be 310,000 square feet, opened 1972 and I heard that closed in march 20, 1991 when jordan marsh was bankrupt.
this is the macy's in bedford nh, that was orginally jordan marsh. IT is off 293 near wayferer inn and 166,000 square feet and opened 66.
this is the macy;s in warwick ri. It is said to be 309,000 square feet, oppened 1971, and was jordan marsh. This location will be divested, as the filene's in the same mall will be renamed macy's.
this macy's shown is in natick, it opened october 1994, was 210,000 square feet, and was jordan marsh. the jordan marsh was in the shoppers world next door.
this one is said to be divested. When the picture can be resized, I hope to have this picture up soon.
this macy's is in the swansea mall. The macy's was jordan marsh. the store was about 100,000 square feet, and was added to the mall in spring 1988. the mall was built in 1975.
when the picture can be resized, I hope to have thie picture up!!!! it says too big to upload. How does the picture get resized.
you'll have to resize the pics yourself by using photoshop or vueprint, or something like that. We can't do it on here. I wish we could. It'd be a lot easier..hehe.

Post pics of the Newington store. I don't care if it looks the same as the Albany one. I want to see them anyway :P
Seeing as how we're on the topic of Jordan Marsh(even though it should really be on Macys..hehe), I have a pic of the old Poughkeepsie, New York location in the Poughkeepsie Galleria. It is now a Sears. This Jordan Marsh opened in 1987 and closed in 1995. Never became Macys(but the Filenes in the mall soon will :P).

Albany - Crossgates Mall - Opened 1984 - Closed 1995
Poughkeepsie - Poughkeepsie Galleria - Opened 1987 - Closed 1991
Middletown - Galleria at Crystal Run - Opened 1992 - Closed 1995

I do not remember how much different Jordan marsh was than Macy's. That was almsot 10 yeras ago. The defunct Methuen mall had a Jordan Marsh. I never went in the jordan marsh because I first went to teh Methuen mall as it was dying. Jordan marsh moved from tehre to the rockingham park mall in Salem new hampshire in spring 1994, 2.5 years after the rockingham park mall opened.

I believe Macy's has been around for at least a century if not more. The annual parade started in the 1920's. I never make out here. Very overpriced in my opinion. I can find the same clothes in Sears, J C Penney or even Old Navy

Alanta, GA (Former Rich's)
http://www.sunjournal.com/search/story.php?ID=147185
CONCORD, N.H. (AP) - At least two of the four Macy's department stores in New Hampshire are planning to move into Filene's stores, which have been holding clearance sales.
Under the plan, the Macy's stores at Nashua's Pheasant Lane Mall and Salem's Rockingham Park Mall will move into the Filene's stores at the malls this year, Kazan said. The current Macy's stores in those malls will be vacated.
In addition, the Filene's store at the Mall of New Hampshire in Manchester is to be converted into a Macy's. Kazan said she believed the Macy's store in Bedford will stay open.
The future of the Filene's and Macy's stores in the Fox Run Mall in Newington were unclear.

The Macy's at Whitehall looks exactly like the one at the Rockaway Townsquare. I've been to both and been inside both, and they both look the same inside and out. They both were previously Bamberger's too.

As you probably already know today was the day Macy's went coast-to-coast changing names of former May Stores including Filenes and Kauffmans and I think other Federated Stores to Macy's. This however did not go over too well in Chicago where legendary Marshall Field's became Macy's.
http://tinyurl.com/nmfp6
Join the club, as we are also not happy that they bought our Goldsmith's stores (in business for over 100 years) and turned them into another chain. I also hate to see them take over the Kaufmann's stores that I loved so much when we lived in PA and the Hecht's that I knew for so long in MD and VA.
:( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :(
i wasn't happy when they took over our Lazarus!
well most of thouters stores are teh same thing as macys just with a diffrent name like Filenes yea i liked them but it was the same thing as macys if anything macys was better then thouhs stores besides chicago doset reallly have anything good there anyway and boy cotting it is crazy besides chicago has sears so they sould be happy wit that tahts there landmark as Macys is new york citys landmark
Sears is nowhere near as well regarded in Chicagoland as Marshall Fields was. Sears has been a nationwide company for years and for a long time, has not had a flagship or corporate HQ presence in the Loop. Marshall Fields to most Chicagoans, is Chicago. Regardless of the fact that the company has been owned by BATUS, Dayton-Hudson/Target & May Co. and has had no Chicago ownership or dealings with the Fields family in years...people in Chicago still felt incredibly attached to that name.
The real problem is the continuing homogenization of our society.
Edit: Sears does have a store on State Street now that they just opened a few years ago. However, we're not talking the same type of store as the Marshall Field's down the street. Not even the same league.

Here's the vacant Macy's at Pheasant Lane Mall in Nashua, N.H. today.
This store looks a lot like the Macy's at Crystal Mall in Waterford, CT which opened the same year and were both Jordan Marsh.
Taken on January 26, 2008.

I live in the DC area, but I live and spend most of my time in Virginia, as mentioned before. I can count almost all of the Macy's: Too many, with one mall having two, and all of the malls that have them...are about next to another mall
Landmark Mall (one was a Hechs, right down I-395)

Pentagon City (right down I-395)
Tyson Galleria (Right next to Tysons Corner Center)
Tyson Corners Center (right next to Tysons Galleria)
Dulles Town Center (about 15-20 miles/minutes from Tysons)
Fair Oaks Mall (this mall has TWO, one was a Hechs and is still open because of leasing, both stores are differing quality, near Tysons)
Ballston Common Mall (Mall isn't a "dead" mall, but should be considered one, IMO)
I may be missing one or two in Arlington, but this is all within 30 miles.

Check out this logo for the California division of May that was used in the 90's: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/b/b1/May_Company_California_%28logo%29.png
Notice the obvious similarity to the Macy's logo? It wasn't until 2006 that Macy's bought May, eliminating a ton of competition, so what was May doing with this logo? Or is it at all possible that May had it before Macy's? What's really strange is that Macy's has had a presence in California (in San Francisco anyway) since 1947, but perhaps Macy's stayed out of Southern California and May stayed out of Northern California before the merger? Might a merger have been proposed during the 80's or 90's sometime that was perhaps shot down by the FTC, leading to the companies sharing this logo?
It's official...the Macy's at Michigan's first mall, Northland Center in Southfield, is targeted for closure. The mall is already about to loose Target. This Macy's originally opened with the mall in 1954 as Hudson's and became Marshall Field's in 2001 and Macy's in 2006.

Always odd that Macy's kept two stores in that market. And it always looked as if that Jordan Marsh store was meant to be an anchor store to a future mall. Similar to the Maine Mall...
Macy’s discount store coming to Westfield Meriden mall
Published: February 2, 2016 | Last Modified: February 2, 2016 03:05PM
By Mary Ellen Godin Record-Journal staff
MERIDEN â€" Macy’s at the Westfield Meriden mall is shuffling around merchandise to make room for a Macy’s Backstage at the store’s western entrance on the upper level, Macy’s sources said Tuesday.
A store employee explained the arrival of the discounted merchandise store within the store as a way to compete with Boscov’s bargain prices.
A store manager confirmed the change but referred all questions to Macy’s corporate management, who could not be reached for comment. Mall management also could not be reached for management.
Coming on the heels of a disappointing third quarter, Macy’s corporate management announced in November it would be piloting 10 Backstage stores inside existing Macy’s stores creating a new hybrid to offer discounted merchandise. The store also announced 59 free-standing Macy’s Backstage stores in off-mall locations.
In its third quarter, the retailer opened five Macy’s Backstage stores in Metro New York.
Shares of Macy’s stock was trading at $40.59 on the New York Stock Exchange at noon, 32 cents down from its opening of $40.91.

Macy's to test store-in-store, customer-service initiatives at Easton site
By Tim Feran The Columbus Dispatch • Friday June 10, 2016 6:13 AM
From the lights to the flooring to the fixtures to the merchandise itself, Macy's at Easton is "100 percent brand new,"or will be on June 25, when the retailer introduces the new store-design prototype on June 25.
Construction began on March 27 â€" with work taking place as the store remained open â€" to turn the conventional department store into a new model featuring "lifestyle" departments and leased businesses. The latter is a version of the store-within-a-store concept that recently gained attention â€" if not a lot of success â€"when JCPenney tried it.
"This is the new way Macy's is looking at the customer," said Andrea Schwartz, vice president of media relations and cause marketing.
What Macy's is counting on to make the physical changes successful is its heightened focus on customer service.
Macy's is hiring 117 additional employees, 50 of them temporary, at the Easton store to execute several new initiatives. For example, the Connect @Macy’s kiosk will offer one-on-one service to customers as soon as they walk into the store. In addition, the retailer is offering at no cost a personal-shopper service called My Stylist @Macy’s.
Macy's decision to add customer-service employees makes sense, said Lee Peterson, an executive vice president at WD Partners, a Dublin retail-consulting company.
"To blow up the old model is the right way to go," Peterson said. "They've figured it out. That's brilliant. The thing is, this is going to cost a lot. But what's going to cost too much is if you go out of business."
Other areas that Macy's has transformed at the Easton prototype range from massively different to subtly enhanced.
The Restore, Nourish and Strengthen department, for example, includes footwear from Finish Line and various brands of athletic apparel as well as Gaiam Yoga merchandise, Fitbit watches and a Berry Blendz full-service juice and smoothie bar. The customer-service aspect in this department includes full-time health and fitness "ambassadors."
"Instead of teaching someone to ring a register, we're hiring people who understand the lifestyle,"said Kathi Newton, vice president and store manager. "I think this is going to be a real game-changer."
The cosmetics department at Easton is receiving a complete face-lift with new fixtures and counters and the addition of a Bluemercury shop, which not only offers beauty products but such treatments as microdermabrasion, brow tinting, facials and waxing.
Store-within-a-store elements also include a new LensCrafters locations with licensed optometrists and a Premier Salon and Spa offering hair, nail and massage services.
Both of those elements are grouped close to the expanded wedding and engagement department, an area in which Macy's has long been a force.
Nearby are a Papyrus stationery shop, the Tux Shop at Macy’s operated by Men’s Wearhouse, an expanded assortment of special-occasion dresses and an expanded jewelry area that includes loose diamonds available for custom designs. A free wedding stylist from the My Stylist @Macy’s program will be available to offer tips to wedding parties and guests on dresses, suits, gifts and honeymoon attire.
"I don't think we've ever done wedding so cohesively," Schwartz said.
With a nod to more-compact urban living, the new furniture department includes areas showing how small-footprint homes can be furnished â€" and including signs showing the square footage of the areas.
The Easton store is so far the only prototype, but officials plan to open it and see how shoppers react.
"That's one of the best things about working at Macy's â€" they're not afraid to change," Newton said. "It's about responding to what the customer is telling us."

Would also make sense that they would close some locations - after all (as an example) the greater Albany (NY) area only had one location in Colonie Center from that mall's opening in the 1950's until into the later 80's/early 90's when Macy's began taking over other chains. Now there are several in surrounding area malls (though they have closed a couple in recent years) so one could see them going back to having the one (or two) large stores in any given area, as people who were interested would still find them.
Went to the Meriden Square Mall on Friday, but didn't get a chance to check out the new "Macy's Backstage" section.

With the Bon Ton in Park City Center mall in Lancaster PA unoccupied, I'm wondering why macy's isn't pursuing this site? It's the strongest mall in Central PA region, has the Apple store in it, and it lacks a macys. The former Bon Ton site itself is also very desirable as it's close to the highways and has good visibility. Perhaps Lancaster county is overserved with two outlet shopping malls not too far, but it seems macy's would be amiss not picking up this location. If Boscov didn't have a store there, it would likely be pursuing this at the moment.
I went to Macy's at the Westfield Meriden Square Mall today. I was looking for shorts for work. They had the same brand of shorts as Walmart for $20 more, so I didn't buy them. Then I checked out the Macy's Back Stage area. While nicely decorated aside from the toys most of the stuff in that section section should be thrown into the donation bin at the neighboring Savers.
