I've heard the same thing, I'm not sure when this is actually going to take effect. The essential logo hasn't been as popular as the grand sears logo? Isn't it kind of exspensive to be changing out an entire image that has only recently been implemented? I guess in away it would be good to streamline all the names to just one or two versions.
SEARS and SEARS GRAND.
There is a lot in store for you where clean, fresh and good make a GRAND UNION.

Sears announced on 2/24 that they are shutting 21 stores.  Stores that are slated for closure include 13 Kmarts, four Sears Department Stores and four Sears Essentials locations.

Yep became an Essentials in 2005 which flopped totally, and then turned into a regular Sears sometime around 2007 or 2008

I noticed that there are help wanted ads for a Sears Hardware store in Hamden, CT.  One closed a few years ago.  I am amazed that they are returning.  It would have to be at a different location, their old one is occupied.

Are Sears Grand stores in other parts of the country really successful? Every time I go into the one in Westlake, OH (formerly a Big Kmart), there's either nobody shopping at all, or very few customers. It's in the shopping mecca of the city - Crocker Park and The Promenade are right across the street, plus the plaza it's in is 95% occupied - but, with their higher prices, I can see why there's never anybody in there. I think it, actually, did more business as a Kmart.

This is what it looked like as a Kmart, after it received a makeover with the rest of the adjoining plaza. Prior to that, I think it still had the slanted roof for the sign...

Sears is apparently about to strike a deal to sell its Kenmore appliance line at stores other than Sears - not exactly sure how this will benefit foot traffic at Sears stores...likewise, Sears Hometown Store franchisees must be steaming mad at this prospect...

Bloomberg reports that as of today CIT is refusing to extend credit to Sears' suppliers.  This could really put a squeeze on Sears if they have to pay up front for inventory...stay tuned...

Edit: CIT has turned on the credit spigot again...got vertigo yet?

Sears is spinning off its smaller-format stores (e.g. Hometown) as a separate business. It wouldn't surprise me if this is what remains of the venerable Sears name in a few years time as the large-format stores are liquidated for their real estate value

43 of their hometown dealer stores are closing including the one in the small community of Brooklyn, Connecticut. 10 Hardware and Appliance stores are closing. No word if any are in Connecticut.

QuoteIn a surprise move, Sears Holdings Corp. said on Thursday it plans to spin off a large part of its stake in its ailing Canadian division, raising new questions about Sears Canada Inc.’s (SCC-T11.45-1.70-12.93%) future course amid tighter retail competition.

With about 95 per cent ownership of Sears Canada today, the parent would still hold about 51 per cent after the spinoff, which it expects to complete this year. Sears said it could further reduce its Sears Canada stake after the spinoff.

It does not look for Sears Canada.....  With Target coming in 2013, Walmart Canada still expanding.... and now this!  I give Sears Canada no more than 5 years.

It almost look like what Kmart did with Kmart Canada in 1997-98.  They spun off the canadian division, an investor group acquired it, and quickly the division closed and was sold to Zellers (which sold out its leases to Target 2011).

Do you think Sears Canada would sell any of its locations to Target to fill gaps in coverage?

I'm sure they would at this point, and many would have the appropriate size for Target.

One problem is that many malls in Canada are anchored by Zellers and Sears so at the ones where Target already acquired the Zellers lease, the Sears location would have to be left out.

Zellers has roughly 275 stores, Sears has 122 full-line stores and Target wants to start with 130 stores so they have room to grow is Sears downsizes or closes.

QuoteFred Waks, chief operating officer at Riocan, Canada’s biggest real estate investment trust, said he does not believe a share spin-off by the parent spells the demise of Sears Canada, but added it has many plum locations in the eyes of keen U.S. retailers.

“[Sears] is not in a Zellers position in terms of [ultra-low] productivity, and they have, in general, locations that are better than Zellers. Does that mean that it’s a great play for J.C. Penney? There are a million different ways to cut it, and you can’t ignore how much Target paid for Zellers just for the real estate.”

While Target, which paid $1.8-billion for 189 Zellers leaseholds, may not be willing to pay high mall rents for urban locations, other Sears properties would look very attractive, Mr. Waks noted.

Sears has confirmed today that it will go ahead:

QuoteHOFFMAN ESTATES â€" Sears Holdings’ board of directors approved the spinoff of a portion of its interest in Sears Canada Inc.

Sears Holdings, which currently owns approximately 95.5 percent of Sears Canada, will distribute approximately 44.5 percent of the total issued and outstanding common shares of Sears Canada on a pro rata basis to holders of Sears Holdings common stock, with the company retaining 51 percent of shares.

Is the Sears Hardware & Appliance Store in Bristol, Connecticut closing? A new real estate company called Saugatuck Commercial Properties has taking over leasing of the Bristol Farms Plaza in Bristol form Northeast Retail Leasing and it shows on its site that Sears is vacant. P.S. was at Big Lots today and Sears was still open.

QuoteAre Sears Canada’s days numbered? Poor results could have U.S. retailers circling soon

Hollie Shaw | Jan 8, 2013 6:24 PM ET

TORONTO â€" With news from its U.S. parent about lower sales and operating earnings at Sears Canada in the critical holiday quarter, the future looks increasingly grim for the Canadian department store chain as rival Target Canada gets ready to open stores here in two months.
