Filene's may become a Bloomingdales in 2006!
how is Bloomingdales?
its a nicer more upscale vgersion of macys there not cheep yhough but they have some great and nice stuff there the best DEPT store around!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Bloomingdale's started out life as a very middle-market department store. Indeed, just prior to its repositioning to its current fashion icon status, it was downright dowdy. Like most old-line department stores, it boasted many departments...even a pet department. All of the old line things went away, and high fashion for home, kitchen, and person took their place. Talk about a tale of two stores! It is one of the most successful reinventions in retail history. At the time the repositioning was initiated, stores like B. Altman (now gone) and Lord & Taylor (struggling for identity) were the carriage trade stores.

I Love Bloomingdales, i even got their Credit Card. God i hope WestFarms gets a Bloomingdales, it gets on my nerves after i left NYC, i couldnt use my card! They are trully upscale, but they sell the stuff i love, way better than lord & Taylor, Macys, etc. The website suxs, cause all they offer is womens clothing and the only catalogs i get are women's clothing!!! I have been to the one in White Plains, NYC and Long Island. Their very popular in NY.

I wonder if another around boston will come or one in south CT. there are not many bloomingdale's. I agree they are expensive. I feel its not worth a bother to buy from there since its so expensive and the appearnce of the stores looks that way. for newton mass there are 3 locations now as they took over the old filene's. i heard a rumor of bloomingdale's going in the old filene's, but I find it too posh for the maine mall.

There was once a Bloomingdale's in Stamford, CT. I think it closed about 15-20 years ago. Its final ads told people they could shop the White Plains, NY store from then on.
The Stamford Bloomingdale's closed on September 8, 1990 after one or two years of poor sales. There were different reasons for its closure including competition from the Stamford Town Center Mall, financial troubles from its parent Federated, inconvenient parking, and a 1988 murder in its parking garage. It was a HUGE store. When it closed, it sat empty for nearly six years. The big label scar "b" was in three or four locations for all of that time. Bloomies now houses the UCONN Stamford campus.
