Title: Dutchess Mall
Post by: amesman on August 07, 2005, 02:44:48 PM
Post your thought and pictures about Dutchess Mall here. To give you a brief history, this mall opened in 1974 in southern Dutchess County in Fishkill, New York with 2 anchors(May Company, and Luckey Platt(a Poughkeepsie based store)), and about 50 to 60 stores. May closed there store in the late 80's, and Jamesway moved in the space in 1990. Luckey Platt went out in the 80's as well, and Service Merchandise came in. South Hills Mall opened in the 70's as well, but didn't have a big effect on Dutchess Mall. The big bang came in 1987, when the Poughkeepsie Galleria opened next to South Hills. This has affected both malls, but it has brought down Dutchess more that South Hills. Jamesway pulled out in 95, and Service Merchandise went in 97. The mall is currently abandoned. Home Depot has plans to demolish the mall for a store. he old Jamesway will still be there, as it is owned by the May Company..

Demolition of this mall has been completed, save for the old Mays/Jamesway, and the Home Depot should be completed by April of 2006.
