They are a chain that serves fish and chips that operates just over a couple dozen stores, all in Southern California except for one in Sacramento, California and two seasonal locations in the Food Building during the Canadian National Exhibition in Toronto.

They were founded in 1965 and affiliated with KFC in 1969 to expand it's reach across the United States. This affiliation lasted until 1980 and the affiliation produced a slew of them in Metro Detroit. Most of them became KFC after the affiliation ended, except for the following:

  • Beverly Hills, MI is now Tubby's Subs.
  • Clawson was later occupied by another tenant, it was eventually torn down for a Rally's (now Checkers).
  • 13303 Joy Road, Detroit is now an oil change place.
  • Farmington Hills became a Little Caesar's and is now vacant.
  • Flint became a couple other restaurants in the 1980's before hosting several non-restaurant tenants in the late 1980's to the present.
  • Lansing became a stereo store by 1976 and since 1985 has been an optician.
  • Plymouth was torn down to make room for an expansion of the parking lot of an adjacent Pizza Hut.
  • Sterling Heights was torn for a Perry Drugs store, which has been Rite-Aid since 1995.

Trenton, Michigan is an interesting case of how that H. Salt Esquire was retenanted after the 1970's-it became a KFC, which moved up West Road to Woodhaven around 1987, then became a record store, a chiropractor's office and most recently a Check & Go check cashing place, it is currently vacant.
