Cabela’s is coming to a Cheektowaga ny

Cabela’s is coming to a Cheektowaga ny shopping plaza on Walden Avenue The 90,000-square-foot Cabela’s store, the first in New York state, is slated to open by late summer 2014 The outside of the store will feature Cabela’s trademark log construction, stonework, wood siding and metal roofing, with a glass storefront. Besides the thousands of outdoor products Cabela’s carries, the store will include a gun library, bargain cave, boat shop, indoor archery range, a deli and fudge shop, and a large replica of a mountain. Cabela’s will anchor a 209,000-square-foot Walden Avenue complex that, at one time, housed a Wegmans Food Market store and later an Ultimate Electronics location. The project also includes the first Home 2, select service hotel, that is planned for the western portion of the 24-acre property. The 108-room, all-suites, hotel also slated to open next year.

They have one in East Hartford, Connecticut. Never been, but they seem like a cool store from the ads I've seen.

Cabela's opens their Green Bay, Wisconsin location on July 25th, 2013. It will be located on Lombardi Avenue, almost a block west of Lambeau Field, near Kmart, Chuck E. Cheese, Mobil/Subway, Shell, Red Lobster,  Copps Food Center, and Road Star Inn.

All Cabela's used to be destination stores, the IKEA of sporting goods, where people would make trips of several hours to reach one and stay there all day.  Michigan only had one store for a long time, in Dundee (south of Ann Arbor), and the whole town has expanded around it.

Now they're building much smaller stores, like the one that opened in Grand Rapids this year (88,000 square feet, compared to Dundee's 225,000).  This is apparently going to be the norm (http://www.mlive.com/business/west-michigan/index.ssf/2013/03/why_cabelas_wont_be_building_m.html) now.

The official press release (http://www.cabelas.com/custserv/custserv.jsp?pageName=greenbay) says Green Bay will be 100k square feet, so this will be one of the "little" stores by their enormous standards.
