Post by: ynkeesfn82 on October 13, 2013, 11:02:59 PM
Bravo Supermarket is a chain of small independently owned grocery stores with locations in Connecticut, New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Florida. They sell both name brand and store brand products. They target the Hispanic community.

Although not yet on their store locator People's Marketplace, which is affiliated with Bravo Supermarket just opened on Friday at 15 Memorial BLVD in Bristol, Connecticut. The store which at one time was a WT Grants was the long-time home of Tinity's Furniture after they moved from New Britain. After old man Tinity died the store closed because the heirs didn't want to continue operating the store. The building sat vacant for a number of years. In 2012 is was divided into a liquor store and a small grocery store called Bristol Marketplace  - a joint venture between the owner of the liquor store and a former manager of the now-defunct Discount Food Outlet.  The partnership failed. The owner of the liquor store bought out the other guy. He ran out of money and Bristol Marketplace closed in the Spring of 2013.

People's Market Place Bravo Supermarket in Bristol, CT is done. At this point I don't know if it's still open or not. It's For Sale for $459,000. Something to do with one side of the family embezzeling money from the other side of the family.

I hope they'll succeed. Did they open under a new name?

There hasn't been anything further in the paper about it. I haven't been up that way in a while. Maybe next week I'll be able to take a ride up that way.

I went to Associated Supermarket's website and it lists locations at 259 Barbour Street in Hartford, CT and 95 Thomaston Avenue in Waterbury, CT. 259 Barbour Street in Hartford is C-Town Supermarket. 95 Thomaston Avenue in Waterbury is a supermarket called Cherry Valley Marketplace which before that was Compare Foods and many years before that Pathmark.

Now open Associated Supermarket 15 Memorial BLVD in downtown Bristol, CT. Before that it was Bravo.

And speaking of smaller grocery stores - When did Compare Foods open on Baldwin Street in Waterbury? They used to be on Thomaston Avenue in the plaza where Pathmark used to be. Now that's Cherry Valley Marketplace.

I was flipping channels and caught the commercial for Compare Foods on the Telemundo station.
