CONFIRMED: Montreal-based Jean Coutu Group said Thursday it will receive $1.45 billion US in cash and a 32 per cent stake in Rite Aid, making it the biggest Rite Aid stockholder. Rite Aid will assume $850 million of Jean Coutu Group's long-term debt.

Jean Coutu paid about $2.4 billion US for 1,549 Eckerd stores in 2004 and has been struggling to integrate them ever since.

--------

Almost every pharmacy will now be owned by Rite Aid in northern New England!  I don't understand Jean Coutu.  3/4 of their pharmacies were in the U.S. with only 327 stores in Canada. Their goal was to transform their investment in a regional drugstore chain into a leading ownership position in a Rite Aid.

I just read on google news today that 8 sotres in NY were being bought out.......haha the older rite aids always smell/ slow computers when checking out

Aside from taking over the 2 Eckerd locations here in Greensburg, PA, Rite Aid is now also building a store RIGHT ACROSS the street from my distribution house for the papers that I deliver. I go right on that road. I only seen the sign this morning though, they must have put it up from the time I passed yesterday till this morning. I'm PISSED!!! How many friggin stores do they need in one small town?? There's one downtown and one at the end of town across the highway from Super-Walmart. There's also a Med-fast pharmacy inside Shop-N-Save, Medicine Shoppe in the Save-A-Lot plaza, plus other drug stores on the other side of town. But 3 Rite Aids????? wth?? My town is NOT that big, mind you. Takes about 15-20 minutes to drive from one end to the other. I give up...

What is going on with renovations of the old Brook's/Eckerds? From what I've seen in CT, Rite Aid has just changed the signage on the building. They sell Rite Aid products and such, but the interior is the same. Any one have any updates. I tried looking for updates on Google, but found nothing.

GothicPrincess

The Eckerd's here are freestanding stores, none of them recieved any renovations other than changing the Eckerd name to Rite-Aid on the pill sign. The one on East Pittsburgh Street in Greensburg finally has the sign changed. Still waiting on downtown to start building. Every time I go past there it's at 3:30-4am so no one is doing anything, but the signs are still up. I'm waiting to see what style the building will be. I will get pictures if I can get over there during the day.

The Hamden, CT Rite Aid  (formerly a Brooks) has blue lettering on the building, which turns white when it is lit at night.  When the store was Brooks the lettering was always red.  I have never seen before such a color change in store signs.  Does anyone have any idea how the letters are able to change color?

We're getting a new RITE AID in Southington. It's gonna be located directly off Exit 32 from I-84 East on the property where the building that used to be Southington Chevrolet is located. No word on what's gonna happen to the Rite Aid in downtown Souhtington or the one further up Route 10 in Plainville.

I was wondering what they would do with the Chevy dealer, I liked it when it was orange for Halloween (haha)

Marc82

That orange building was a nice way to say WELCOME TO SOUTHINGTON. *lol*

AmesNewington

Wasn't it orange because there was a temperary Halloween shop/haunted house there in 2006?

Also, when are the all of the former Brook's locations turned Rite Aid going to get a re-model? When I walked in to one a month ago, everything was just like it was when it was Brook's.

2007, but yeah. And they were only open for about 2 1/2 or 3 weeks. They missed most of the Halloween Season. *LOL*

I think the original plan was 18 months - 2 years or so for all stores to be completely done.  At this point, they have been focusing on the signs and the registers to get everything into one system - probably soon they'll start thinking about redesigns.
Also - in some places, they may still be considering what stores may not be kept (they seem to have closed the most obvious, where the Eckerd/Brooks was the older store and very close to the existing Rite Aid, but haven't done much in locations where the Rite Aid is older and the Brooks/Eckerd is newer).

AmesNewington

Yes, perhaps they are testing out the former Brook's/Eckerd locations before a re-model to consider which ones are the most viable to keep open. Although, it has almost been a year, and there are no older Rite Aids in my area. They just entered the area replacing Brook's, so they should have made a decision by now.

We're getting a new RITE AID in Southington.

Here's an article from the local weekly paper The Southington Observer. It says the new driveway for the property will line up directly with I-84 and the traffic light will be reconfigured to help people get in and out of the store much easier.

Former Penn Fruit and Rite Aid in Whitehall, PA, now closed.  This Penn Fruit closed in 1976 when they were acquired by Food Fair. Rite Aid closed in 2004.

Two things- this looks the same as the new CVS design, and it looks silly that it has both the Rite Aid shield logo and script.

We have four Rite Aid stores in town. Two newer, bigger ones, and two older style ones.

Thier prices are pretty up there. Even for a drug store.

I always thought Rite Aid has/had pretty good pricing (Brooks/Eckerd's pricing used to be extremely high), although Walgreens tends to beat them on sale items. CVS's pricing is crazy high..I don't remember the last time I even bought something from a CVS--plus you have to carry another dumb card around to get their sale prices.

lol i go to  all 2 rite aid  cvs and walgreens  walgreens is  my favorite  to g get my candy bar with rasberry filling  this regular 2.49  this week 2 for 3 bucks

The Rite Aid in Cheshire, CT is relocating later this year. With 2 new stores being built in Central Connecticut I seriously doubt they will be closing anytime soon (but one never knows for certain. Look at Steve & Barry's).

I'm a retard. I drove past that new Rite-Aid they were building a few days ago, it's been completed for a few months now and I didn't stop to get pictures. Because I'm a retard. I'm sorry. Next time I go past I'll try to get them. I'll tell you now though, it looks like the one videogamer75 posted up there ^^^^ I have yet to go in it. I don't have that job where I was near it at 3:30am anymore, I actually have a job interview for the new Aldi's they're building in Latrobe, near the other Eckerd/Rite-Aid...good luck to me lol I'll post in the Aldi's thread what happens tomorrow....anyways. If I get over there tomorrow I'll snap a pic of the Rite-Aid they built. Sorry I been slacking lately. Computer ate itself so I had to strip it, and the hubbers comp is a piece of you know what. But I'm BACK!!!!!!! love y'all

Here's the new Rite Aid under construction on Queen Street in Southington, CT. I took this picture yesterday while stopped at a red light. The site was home to a Chevy Dealership under various names until 2007. The building was painted ORANGE for Halloween 07 and they sold Halloween stuff there. The older Rite Aid in Southington downtown will reportedly stay open.
