All the stores look exactly the same ... they opened in many former Bradlees and even in a former Ames in NH and you can't tell.
The inside of the stores is nice, clean and bright... like some old Sears should be :P
here's the store in Middletown, New York.
The one Albany store(pictured above) has a different design. Instead of two entrances in the front, it has one entrance in the front, and one on the side of the building. It was a former Builders Square too.
Here's the newly opened Kohl's in Biddeford ME !
awesome pics Zayre88!! :yup:
Kohl's design reminds me of two pixelized 1980 frog eyes from some cheap videogame. Hehehe

Yes kohls is a nice looking store i think it's better thrn sears They Also Opend Many in former Caldor locations 32 what they did to my caldor is the tore down the front of the store and remodles the inside.
also when they were tearing it down the fron en the old logo was visbal when they rentvated the store the put a wall over the old logo my Kolhs opend in Jun Of 2000
"Expect great things" is now the slogan at Kohl's
Kind of a mix between Target (Expect more, pay less) Sears (Good Life, Great price) and Things !
Before: "That's more like it"
hears the Mount Kisco Kohls former Caldor kohls quckley snached this location in late 1999 and they opend in jun 2000
Kohl's stores are very nice stores indeed. The location here in Evansville looks exactly like the picture with the double doors. (and yes, now that you mention it, the store does kinda sorta look like frog eyes from a 1981 video game).
I shop at our Kohl's all the time. It is in a big box shopping center with a Super Wal-mart, Home Depot, Party Place, Office Depot, Circuit City, and Pass Pets.
I have been to a Kohl's in Louisville KY that was two stories tall and a stand alone unit. Only one I have ever seen built like that. It does a large amount of business.
hears a old kohls logo
Here's the new Kingston Kohl's. It opened in half of the old Super Kmart last March.
They are evil, expensive and over rated! So call department store. They took over some Clover locations when they went out like the one below.
The newly opened Kohl's in Westbrook ME (former Bradlees)
Look at how they keep there stores, with grafetti!:insane:
Ickkk..I dont like Kohls. Theyre too much like JCPenney and they sell too much clothes and nothing else!!!

Its not that they sell clothes that bothers me. I like Marshalls and they mostly sell clothes. I don't like Kohl's because of the prices and I can never find what I want there. Its all baggy jeans and shirts that say curses on them. Its whats "in".

The only thing I do not like about Kohl's is that my mom spends about 4 hours there. My nearest one is in Hooksett., They are a more upscale JCPEnny, and what I do not like is that they replaced some of the Bradlees and Caldors that were the only show in town for miles like burlington MAss (A bradlees and Caldor closed and Kohl's replaced the Bradlees and Home depot exop replaced Caldor and that strip has national chains and a huge mall), Ridgefield CT (I have a friend who lives there) while they are not a discount store, they are a store like JCPEnny.
But I can see what they do and this was a good idea, open a store like that away from malls.
Kohls is up there with Sears JC Penny Macys ect i like them caus ethey do sell good stuff if Sears evere GOB i think Kohls will make a good replacemt 4 them
Wow. This store is really getting a bad rep quickly. Honestly, I don't see anything wrong with it. Because I've never seen or been inside of one... until now. Just a few months ago, an old Lowe's building was demolished, and a Kohl's was constructed in it's place, though it's yet to open. My nearest city (Beckley, WV) has never had a large variety of retail stores (3 Wal-Marts, 2 Lowe's, K-Mart,Magic-Mart, and several smaller stores and a few malls). But recently it's been expanding more. So I'm looking forward to seeing the store, should be opening this or next month. Hope it's not as bad as you guys are making it sound. :|
Happy new year all!

I think that Kohl's is what JCPenney should look like. Around Maine and NH, all Kohl's stores have opened between 2001 and 2005 so they are big, bright and modern. In Maine and NH, most JCPenney stores opened 25 years ago. Most are outdated, dark and have old fixtures... they look cluttered.
In that situation, Kohl's is like a breath of fresh air.

kohl's in hamden ct in the former caldor and man kohl's replaced a lot caldors in CT and NY in 2000. I hate how in some places they replaced a bradlees or caldor in a town with no discount store for miles (like ridgefield, north andover, portchester, burlington mass, etc and mt. kisco, hamden, trumbull and danbury / brookfield where left without a discount for a few years) still you can see some caldor look on the building structure and a lot of early new england kohl's where not built from the ground up.

Looks like it could possibly be an old Clover store. I don't know if Clover had stores as far as Allentown, but many of their stores were sold to Kohl's in late 1996/early 1997 when Clover went out of business.
My local Clover never made it to a Kohl's since there was already a Kohl's being built in a brand new building in the town over.

I've been to one that just had it's grand opening Wednesday, It's close to the Kohl's I currently work at. The new Kohl's look completely different than the old one inside and out. As far as the outside goes each entrance has big windows now on both sides, the entrances have a kind of canopy to cover the entrance doors and there's an outdoor speaker that plays the music outside, the doors are now all automatic side opening doors. There are seats in the lobby area and outside. The store is so nice that the entire speaker system inside is Bose. Anyways I'll have to get some pic of the exterior next time I go out that way. I didn't have may camera when I went there the other day.
Kohl's is a very nice store with nice people and it seems like everytime I go in there they always have pretty good clearence sales. Their prices are also pretty reasonable and we almost always find nice clothes for my son. I have had a very good experiance with this store.:yup:

Ickkk..I dont like Kohls. Theyre too much like JCPenney and they sell too much clothes and nothing else!!!
That's the same reason I hate Kohl's. I shopped there once and I couldn't find anything but clothes, clothes, and MORE CLOTHES!!!! I don't even think I saw snacks, appliances, or anything a normal department store would sell. If you ask me I would rather have Jamesway, Caldor, or Bradlees, in their place!
KOHL's just opened in Waterbury, CT. It's right off the Austin Road Exit of I-84. If I drove the highways I'd go there and get pictures, but since I don't I won't. I'll leave that up to my compadre Nick D.

I just checked on Warrington PA's Kohl's and found out it was not a Clover. The Clover in Warrington was demolished and replaced by The Home Depot.

All the stores look exactly the same ... they opened in many former Bradlees and even in a former Ames in NH and you can't tell.
The inside of the stores is nice, clean and bright... like some old Sears should be :P
Kohl's Department Stores was started by the long gone kohl's Supermarket chain. In 1983, the Kohl's Supermarket chain was spun off of Kohl's Department Stores and sold to The Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Company
(A&P). a&P has since closed all of the Kohl's Fod Markets and Kohl's Food Empouium stores.
Kohl's will open a store on The Berlin Tunrpike in Berlin, Connecticut during the Summer of 2012. It will be located in Home Depot Plaza most likely taking part of the former Sam's Club, which built a larger store further up The Berlin Turnpike on the Newington side in 2009.

Its been officially confirmed that they will open in Berlin. They already knocked the old Same Club and build a new 58,000 foot building.
I am happy but its weird theirs one town next over in Rocky Hill, I can see it effecting that store bc the Khols around here aren't that close to each other.
And that is small for a Kohls. The one in the Plainville Commons in Plainville is around 86,000 Sq. Feet.

Its what Kohls is planning on doing going forward making smaller stores.
Has anyone seen a Kohls with the Customer Service Desk up front by the registers?
The one in West Lebanon moved it up front after the Irene flooding Remodels.

Most all of the older Kohl's stores that are receiving remodels have the customer service desk being relocated to the front of the store. It's for customer convenience and security.
3 new Kohl's will be opening in Connecticut this fall in Berlin, Killingly, and New Milford.

It appears Berlin will be small. They are only using a portion of the old Sam's Club space.
Kohl's Grand Opening Sale including the on the Berlin Turnpike starts Wednesday 9/26.
Don't know if Kohl's could some day follow Target into expansion to Canada?
I'm sure they'll be watching how it goes for Target. They could eventually follow the same path and buy leases from a struggling Canadian retailer to begin their expansion: maybe Sears Canada...

The exact same thing happened around here where I live when a Kohl's moved into a former Ames Department Store that shut down back in 1990 from Ames First Bankruptcy. Kohl's moved into this former Ames Department Store location back in 2011, however this former Ames Department Store was about the typical size of a Kmart Store that you would see back in the 1980's that does not fall underneath The Big Kmart Store concept. What I mean by that is that this former Ames Department Store is smaller than what a stand alone Big Kmart Store would be. Having said that, you can see that this Kohl's Store is not that big. At the same time this Ames Department Store location sat empty for twenty-one straight years from Ames closure back in 1990 until Kohl's purchased the building to open their new location in this former Ames Department Store in 2011. I still have yet to go shop at this Kohl's in this former Ames Department Store space. Even though I have never shopped at it yet, I know for certain that I am going to like it better than my own local Kohl's Store, because my local Kohl's Store is a big one and I have never really cared for it. Plus at the same time, I like smaller stores when it comes to grocery stores. Having said that, since this Kohl's that opened up in this former Ames Department Store location back in 2011 is a smaller Kohl's Store that gives me a pretty good feeling that I am going to like it, especially at the same time since it is in one of my favorite former department stores from the 1980's/90's that I grew up with which as you can guess of course is Ames.

It has to be extensive renovations if they close for that long!
Here they gutted the inside of the Zellers store down to the concrete slab and steel joists, knocked down half of the front wall and redone all plumbing, heating, roof and exterior... They began in April and store will open mid-September (roughly 7 months).
Kohl's stores are a common site here in Wisconsin, where they are found anchoring most of the shopping malls here. Shopping malls with both a Shopko and Kohl's anchor store are found in most cities in Wisconsin, Upper Michigan, and Minnesota. Kohl's was also a supermarket chain in Wisconsin as well, and both Kohl's Department Stores and Kohl's Supermarkets were found co-located in strip malls across Wisconsin from the 1970s to the 1990s.
Former Wisconsin senator, philanthropist and Milwaukee Bucks NBA basketball team owner Herb Kohl, his father Max Kohl and his family owned the department store and supermarket bearing their name.

Kohl's Supermarkets were eventually sold to A&P. They shut them all down. Don't remember when. And yes years and years ago Kohl's Supermarket and Dept store were the same company.

A&P did not shut the stores down right away. They operated the stores up until the early 2000s as Kohl's Food Empriums, and then they sold the stores to other Wisconsin grocery store chains, such as Copps Food Center/Pick 'n Save (Roundy's), and Sendik's Food Markets, while some became other retailers like Big Lots, or Office Max, while most were just simply closed, and were later demolished. Most Kohl's Supermarkets share architectural design elements with other supermarkets of the 1940s/50s/60s, such as the Penn Fruit supermarkets, where Max Kohl got his inspiration for the arched roof on the Kohl's supermarkets.

Turns out the store will have to be demolished and rebuilt due to inadequate fill prior to the original store's construction. Not surprisingly, the new store will be considerably smaller than the previous one.

Kohl's will close a store in Melville, NY (on Long Island) I think it's their first store in a fomer Caldor to close. Do you think there will there be more closings?

A lot of chains are coming to the realization that they're seriously overstored. New Kohl's are considerably smaller than the legacy stores. One way of reducing square footage in a given market is to close redundant locations. So I have no doubt that Kohl's will continue to shrink its footprint.
Staples has been doing the same thing, very slowly...
Another example is Best Buy, which like Staples is also taking its sweet time.

Most of them in California. Not a shock.
The business climate out there is really bad.
The store that had to be closed, demolished and rebuilt a couple of years ago because inadequate fill was causing the foundation to sink is now closed again indefinitely because its roof is sagging under the weight of accumulated snow.

According to the link as of today (2/17) it has reopened - but you'd think that anyone doing building in an area like Maine would take the potential for a large amount of snow into account and either build accordingly or have something (or someone) to remove it if more than x amount has fallen.

As we all know in my state of Wisconsin, Kohl's used to be synonymous with groceries in its early days in the 1940s (Kohl's Foods closed their last store in the Milwaukee area in 2003). Now Kohl's is relying on an outside vendor to offer food inside their stores, in this case, German grocer ALDI.
