Ahhh, Renys...a holdout in the regional discount/department store world. Founder Bob Reny Sr. just passed away in this last week.

I've never been to the Wells Renys, but I've been to a few...Belfast, Ellsworth, Dexter, and I believe one other farther south but I don't recall where for certain.

Wells, Maine is also notable in the retail world for containing a Shaw's dry grocery distribution center.

That I don't know...I've spent very little time in Wells, only been there once or twice. It's about two hours south of me. Sorry I can't be of more assistance!

Wow, that is an amazing collection of pictures from the former Ames store. It almost appears to be currently an Ames like you said. Except it's a Reny's.... Blue shopping carts??? Kind of a clash with all the green in the store and also on the store sign.

Just FYI (even though this is an old post) - Shop n Save has been a part of Hannaford (in fact, their stores here in upstate NY when they first opened used the Shop n Save name).
They then decided to convert all their stores to the Hannaford name to simplify things (they had several other names as well in different areas) but left the Shop n Save name for stores that they supply but don't own (ones run by independent owners).

So that is likely what happened here - whoever had owned it decided to sell it to the company at that point, thus the name change.
