Title: The Fallen Melville Empire
Post by: Mobil on October 09, 2008, 05:59:26 PM
Melville Corporation acquired CVS in 1969 and established it as a major brand. Melville also owned Linens 'n Things, Marshalls, KB Toys, and many other stores. CVS was the most profitable division. It sold all the other divisions in 1996 and was renamed CVS Corporation.

The interesting part of the Melville Corporation on Long Island is that Ward Melville gave the state of New York land to build Stony Brook University.

A high school near Stony Brook (in East Setauket, NY) is named after Ward Melville.
