I have no info except I know they had some east coast stores. Heres a few ads from the late 70's:

With a name like that i can only imagine how well they would fare against the discount stores of today!
I found a little bit of information on google not much

In 1985, Zayre purchased the former Gaylord's store chain.

tuscaloosa news talks about gaylords and the store their opening in tuscaloosa

despite their being about 10 images of this one single sign I cant find hardly any information on the department store
