Wow, I didn't realize they are practically in every Philly region mall, but I have been seeing them in several malls. At one time not too long ago, it was more a special store found in select malls.

In South Jersey,
they serve Cherry Hill Mall, Deptford Mall, Hamilton Mall and Tanger Outlets (Atlantic City).

They don't service Burlington County however, primarily Moorestown Mall. Maybe as it feels it's too close to Cherry Hill Mall. But it also doesn't serve the Marlton corridor (Promenade at Sagemore) that has stores like GAP and Apple. I think it could replace the former Coldwater Creek space at Promenade at Sagemore.

Looks like they will be opening at The Meriden Square Mall this summer.

Changes at Westfield Meriden could be paving the way for H&M

By Mary Ellen Godin Record-Journal staff

MERIDEN â€" H&M could be the next large tenant at Westfield Meriden mall, occupying the upper level of the Macy’s wing, according to sources at nearby H&M stores and at the mall.

An H&M employee at the Brass Mill Mall in Waterbury said the Swedish based-retailer is opening another store in Meriden by June or July. A man who identified himself as a manager at H&M in Westfield’s Connecticut Post mall said the deal is confirmed, and he was told to notify employees who may wish to work in Meriden.

Last week, an employee at the women’s clothing store Windsor said H&M is moving into the space recently vacated by Windsor, Hallmark and Littman Jewelers. Hallmark and Windsor are being relocated within the mall, while Littman closed on Jan. 11 and moved to the Brass Mill Mall. An employee at Hallmark said H&M would occupy that whole side.

Mall spokeswoman Katherine Bolas declined to confirm or deny the reports.

“While H&M would be a wonderful addition to the center as it is one of our most requested retailers, we don’t have an announcement to make at this time,” Bolas said in an e-mail.

Representatives from H&M’s corporate offices in the United States. could not be reached for comment.

The tenants in the Macy’s wing were recently relocated to other parts of the mall. Hallmark plans to move to the Boscov’s wing, Windsor plans to move to the Sears wing and Pietro’s Tuxedo Specialists moved to the lower level.

H&M, with 3,990 stores in 61 markets worldwide, is poised for expansion.

“H&M’s growth target is to increase the number of stores by 10-15 percent per year, and at the same time increase sales in comparable units,” according to the company’s expansion strategy. The chain also operates COS, Monki, Weekday, Cheap Monday, and Other Stories and H&M Home. It owns and operates 400 stores in the United States with five stores in Connecticut: Manchester, WestFarms mall, Milford, Waterbury and Trumbull.

An H&M would fit well among the tenant mix at Westfield Meriden, according to Craig Johnson, owner of retail consulting firm Customer Growth Partners in New Canaan. He also believes the 20-mile distance between Meriden and Waterbury would not weaken sales.

“That’s pretty much right on the border and gives you a decent radius for H&M, which is expanding in this country, ” Johnson said. “It could do well. There are parts of this country where 20 miles away is OK.”

H&M is one of several fast fashion chains like Forever 21 that can bring runway styles to display windows in weeks instead of months like other men’s and women’s clothing retailers.

A store called Hennes opened in Vasteras, Sweden in 1947, followed by branches in Stockholm and Norway. In 1964, the owners bought Muritz Widforss, a hunting and fishing equipment store and introduced men’s and children’s clothing, changing the name to Hennes & Mauritz. In 1974, H&M was listed on the Stockholm Stock Exchange and in 2000 the brand opened its first store in the United States on Fifth Avenue in Manhattan.

H&M was ranked number seven Friday among the most sustainable companies, according to the Global 100 index.

The construction activity along the Macy’s wing follows another victory for Westfield Meriden. The opening of Boscov’s in the former J.C. Penney anchor site in October helped to counter predictions that mid-sized malls were failing.

Boscov’s was credited for bringing double-digit percentage increases in foot traffic on Black Friday and continues to be a strong driver for the mall, Bolas said in November.

H&M in Meriden Square opened on August 11th. I was at the mall today, but didn't stop in the store or take any pictures. It's the entire Macy's wing on the 2nd floor.

Pikapower

There was a mini expansion pack for "The Sims 2" game that featured fashions from H&M.
