my service merchandise kida looked like that it was in teh jefferson vally mall half of it was sealed off for more mall space and a H&M

here is the former 55,000 square foot SErvice merchandise in pittsfield/lanesboro mass and opened september 1988. it closed when they closed 133 stores in bankruptcy and taht round was in early-mid 1999, and bangor, auburn and brunswick maine; somerville, tewksbury, holyoke, leominster, pittsfield mass; albany, plattsburgh and amherst ny were part of this round. enfield connecticut and west hartford connecticut closed in a earlier round.

the logo is gone. and I still find it stupid that they cut down half their departments

Service Merchandise was always a lousy store seemingly suffering for a long time. I remember two of them in the Connecticut area -- one in the Toys "R" Us/former Caldor plaza (now a Raymour & Flanigan) and one in Manchester, Connecticut in the Buckland Pavilions Plaza (now a Big Lots I think).

Always thought of it was a step lower than everyone else and I heard it was a secondary store for Sears -- stuff they really couldn't push.

yah it was lousy in the end, my parents could never, in the end, find the right stuff and did not shop there as much. it was dumb to dump half their merchandise categories. them closing 35 percent of their stores was pathetic too and they pulled out of albany and buffalo new york in that round. presque isle maine stoer closed in feb 1994 as an individual closing. there waws never one in rhode island (if ther was it probably would hvae been in warwick), but there was one in swansea.

they sucked near the end because they stoped selling alot of stuff/ discontuning it so i kida get what your saying and i personlay tghink servicer merchandise was a hell of alot better then anything sears ever sold no there one step below things now too
