No Ames nearby since 2002...

I'll send out photos later, but the Sears in Warwick, RI closed back in mid-2017. One half seems to be in the middle of construction for a At home, while the other half sits vacant with a giant labelscar.

I wonder if the Rotterdam mall in Schenectady will ever find a tenant for the Sears I worked at for a month. There has been talk about a ShopRite setting up shop there..

The sad state of Sears today...  These were taken at a Sears store that is not being closed. Maybe they were just waiting for a shipment but this is just sad.

This was what the Meriden, CT Sears tool department looked like back in November. I believe they were remodeling the department itself but other areas of the store were also scarce on stock and they weren't making any efforts to hide it. You can't get sales if you don't have anything in stock to purchase.

That's pitiful!

I guess it was 2 years ago that my wife decided I needed to find something for $25 at Sears, which she would buy for me as a birthday present. The shelves looked not much different than those. It was just after Christmas, so maybe that had something to do with it. I've noticed the competition (Lowes, Home Depot, Ace Hardware, etc) don't seem to have this problem.

I'm trying to remember what that Sears was like when I visited also in November, but I just basically ran through the store.

Had not heard that, but it would seem to be a logical idea.  There are no supermarkets in that area (the others are up more towards Altamont Ave and Curry Road), and the fairly easy access off of I-890 would be helpful for others who might want to come from areas around where ShopRite doesn't exist (similarly to the latest one in North Greenbush being easy to get to off I-90 Exit Cool.

With Sears Canada gone and Sears US soon to follow, Sears Mexico will be all that remains.

I don't know, but it will be a lot sooner than 2043. Maybe this, next year or the year after.

Good article detailing the multiple pressures that Sears is under
and why they are a long shot to survive for much longer.

Sears is cutting 200 home office positions effective immediately.

https://www.usatoday.com/story/money/2018/01/31/sears-cutting-roughly-220-jobs-its-corporate-offices/1084180001/?utm_source=feedblitz&utm_medium=FeedBlitzRss&utm_campaign=usatodaycommoney-topstories

A hard lesson from my days scuffling through retail bankruptcy.
A lot of people at the home office who think their jobs are very important
are actually quite expendable.

At store level they still need someone to open the doors every day and to run the register.
Home office administration, not so much.

Yes. Just like how the big "W" store laid off 1000 at their corporate office. Going back to the first time I worked for that company 10 years ago, they were talking about how bloated their corporate office was.
