Unfortunately they are in a death spiral from which they are unlikely to escape.
Walk into their stores....even at this time of year, and they are dead.

They send me increasingly attractive coupon deals.
I spend 45 minutes in their store, and can't find anything I'd really like to buy.

The end is near.
the one i  went to Milford Ct and Glassboro NJ were dead when I went to them 2 days ago. they arent well lit and smell funny, yet Walmart and TArget are adapting (Target w flexible stores, WAlmart w another new remodel).  What year will Kmart go?

My guess with the way that Kmart is going, they'll be gone in 2017!

I used to worry of that but I just dont care if they do. all I will do is go to its closing sales. its now a so what. Also Will Walmart and Target take some of their stores?

Yes. As I was just discussing with a member of his board on Facebook Messenger a couple nights ago I don't believe a word "Eddie L" says about SHC not discontinuing the KMART brand.

Warren Buffet predicted the demise of Sears 10 years ago. And "Fast Eddie" gets another loan for Sears bringing the total amount lent to the company in the past 2 years of over $1 Billion.

You didn't have to be Nostradamus to predict the demise of Sears...just sayin'...and while we're at it, here's the latest bit of gloom and doom...

They did it..

Sears sells its Craftsman brand to Stanley Black & Decker.  The cash-strapped retailer will sell its iconic Craftsman brand to Stanley for about $900 million

Sears has sold off the Craftsman brand name to Stanley/Black and Decker for $900 million.

Apparently Black and Decker is planning to manufacture Craftsman tools in the US!

SMH.  >:( Not surprising about the lack of store maintenance though. I mentioned on this forum that when I went to the now-defunct Waterbury, CT KMART back in February 2013 a week after a 3 foot blizzard that the roof was badly leaking with half the store pretty much blocked of. And I've heard from a couple people on Facebook about the HVAC system not working properly and the leaking roof at the soon-to-close Cromwell, CT KMART.

I went to Sears at the Meriden Square Mall today. Not too bad of a store. The store was bright and clean. Seemed to be in good shape. My only complaint is that there were no store directories or department signs so I couldn't find anything. I was looking for Men's boots and all I could find were Women's boots and children's boots. I couldn't even find Men's clothing. There were a few customers in the store.

what will happen?

Zayre88

"it will implement a strategic restructuring effort designed to streamline operations and target at least $1 billion in annualized cost savings"

More cuts, don't expect better stores, renovations, just more cuts and closings to keep what will be left afloat!

what will be closed and will they just retire the Kmart name and keep Sears.

Sears Canada announced it will cut 500 jobs across the country.

According to a laid off employee, managers were asked to classify every employee as "red, yellow or green"

"Red" meant you became at high risk of being laid off.  Still according to that employee, the mood inside the stores became very grim when they began to learn about that new round of layoffs.

Sears Canada operates 95 full-line stores. It once had 110.

This video of the Sears in Jersey City, NJ shows the effects of chronic out-of-stocks and understaffing. Who do they think they are, Target Canada?

The Sears in Waterford looks pretty much like the Jersey City one in the video. The downstairs sections, aside from the tool section are baren.  There's pretty much a good portion of the home goods and excercise equipment department which is totally empty.

Retail Hell - a perfect analogy for the state most Sears and Kmart stores in the United States are in.

I was in a Kmart recently where the mood was absolutely grim.

I was nearly the only customer.  It was as if the going-out-of-business sale
had occurred three months earlier, and no one bothered to tell the employees.

I was in the Lewes, DE Kmart earlier in the week (as I type this I'm snacking on some very good Voortman cookies I bought there!) and it's a crying shame: great location, large store, friendly staff...and the employees easily outnumbered the customers. This is one of those locations that can be a real winner for the company, but how do you get folks to walk in the door (or, more important, walk back in the door!)

This might be a showcase for the DieHard brand, which Fast Eddie is trying desperately to sell
