Found this today while browsing for something unrelated:
How about we make this the official thread for updates on former stores?

"Construction for the new Hamburg [Pennsylvania] Redner's will begin later this month in the Hamburg Commons Shopping Center, and is scheduled to open in June. The store is on a site previously occupied by an Ames department store and will measure approximately 56,000 square feet."

Redner's is a nice supermarket chain (discount-like) though so at least it didn't go to Wal-Mart or Big Lots.

One of my local Ames, (Ashland Kentucky) has gone under renovation. It has already been divided to make room for a local delivery company. If you would like to see the store, and some of the remodeling pics, it's under the Ames pictures section the main page. As for the rest of my local Ames stores.... they sit empty.

I heard that Ocean State Job Lot in Naugatuck, CT is moving.  Is it going into the former Ames?

it moving into the former ames seems likely as a lot of ames have become OCean state job lots.

That whole plaza is looking run-down so I don't see how big a deal it would be if they moved other than the bigger square footage. The former Ames building has some dilapidated poles out front of the building...

I, too, visited the Naugatuck Ames location and there is indeed an Ocean State Job Lot there: it's at the opposite end of the plaza. I didn't find any former Ames carts but I did find a slew of gray (possible former TJ Maxx) carts and even a "Venture" cart like this (only) one.

That other shopping cart along with the Venture cart looks a lot like a Kmart cart.

Mayeb they got rid of the Ames ones, I have a picture in there of a bunch of green carts in front of the OSJL... hehehe.

an uppdate on teh ames in pawling ny i nodiced there are no pics on teh store located of this store i was just there today i shot a few pics im gonna post them on hear soon with some info on it when i went tyhere it was in teh works of being gutted :(

hearsd teh ame sin pawling form teh looks of it it opend in the ealry 80s idd say 1981 and clsoed in 2002 it was evrey small it was balck and with grey walls on the outside and was a verey small i remember going in hear once back in 1996

Yes, it looks like whatever store it was from has had the logo blocked out in red.
