Alexander's supermarket started in 1962 in Lowell MAss. The first store was on Middlesex st, and always remained small. Alexander's had stores in Dracut and Chelmsford Mass (may have opened 1972, sr weiner says the hannaford is 47,800 square feet), NAshua NH (in the Nashua MAll plaza and opened 1967, said to have 35,000 square feet of selling space and 16,000 square feet of storage, building total 51,000 square feet), MAnchester nh (Elm st, opened in 1980 since it was other grocery stores before, a small store), MAnchester nh (Eastside plaza, HAnover st, opened maybe 1980 and was other grocery stores before), MAnchester nh (Bradlees Plaza, SOuth Willow st, not a very big store and opened in mid 1970s), Bedford NH (Bedford Mall, small store said to be 25,000 or 30,000 square feet, opened 1970 something), MErrimack nh (Opened 1987, said 42,000 square feet), Hudson NH (HUdson MAll, rt. 102, fairly big store, opened 1974), Hooksett (opened 1985, said to have relocated from other, hard to say, said to be 65,000 square feet).

Shop 'n save ,hannaford company, bought Alexander's out in late 1990, and all the stores became Shop 'n save in June 1991. The one in MAnchester on Elm st and the one in Lowell on Middlesex st (Since a HAnnaford's Sun Foods branch opened in 1988) closed in June 1991. the alexander's stores were old.

In Bedford NH Alexander's was going to move to the new Bedford Grove plaza being built in 1991, but when it moved in 1991, it moved there as being named Alexander's Shop n save and is 59,000 square feet, and the old Alexander's in the Bedford MAll became MVP Sports in like 1992.The stores got renamed Alexander's (Small lettering), Shop 'n SAve (Big lettering). Shop 'n save relocated the Alexander's Shop'n SAve on SOuth WIllow st in MAnchester NH to a bigger 64,000 square foot store in April 1992, (The old Alexander's shop n save in south willow st became OFficemax in December 1992), the MErrimack Alexander's Shop 'n Save closed in November 1993 (The whole plaza and the vacant supermarket became PC OFFICE COMPLEX), the alexander's shop n save in DRacut may have relocated to the Shop 'n Save (That looks modernized) nearby, but I do not know

In 1999, the Shop'n saves in Chelmsfodr MAss (IT underwent an renovation and I DO NOT KNOW IF IT WAS EXPANDED AS IT IS 47,800 squuare feet now), Hooksett, Manchester Hanover st, Hudson MAll, got remodeled and took the Alexander's shop 'n save name off, and was renamed Shop' n save, but then got renameD Hannaford in 1992.

I remember when this location had this store front, of course the sign had already changes to Alexander's Shop N' Save.
The store has since had an exstensive remodel with the grand entrance moving to the far right of the picture.
The Hanover Street location in Manchester, NH still has a similiar store front to what is pictured here.
