Here's a list of retailers that have once existed or will exist in other countries once their U.S. counterparts go under.

Woolworth -- Woolworth has since left the United States and Mexico. However, Woolworth still exists in Mexico. www.woolworth.mx

Woolco -- Woolco UK and Canada outlived their US counterparts. Woolco went under in the US in 1983, in the UK in 1986, and Canada in 1994. Woolco UK was sold to ASDA and Woolco Canada was sold to Wal-Mart.

Kmart -- Kmart US has been closing hundreds of stores for quite some time. Kmart Canada was sold to Zellers in 1997. A majority of Super Kmart Mexico's locations were sold to Commercial Mexicana, who then converted those stores to Mega Hypermarkets. When Kmart US closes their last store, the only Kmart locations left on this Earth will be in Australia and New Zealand. www.kmart.com.au www.kmart.co.nz

I knew a guy who had worked in management at a Zayre store in Puerto Rico.
Only one manager on the staff was a local Puerto Rican.  There was some issue and
they had to terminate her.  This resulted in riots against the Mainland Gringos who
had fired her.  The company had to pull them all out.

Operating in other countries is not always what its cracked up to be.
