Might this be a good opportunity for Giant Eagle to expand further in the Indianapolis market outside the one Market District/GetGo in Carmel? It would also give them a presence in the Cincinnati market as well.

Marsh's implosion continues. More stores close, and they are exiting the pharmacy business (the pharmacy stores will no longer be able to sell hard liquor.) Pharmacy customer files have been sold to CVS. Krispy Kreme is suing Marsh for unpaid bills.

Maybe, or perhaps Marsh has already chased so many customers away to competitors that there isn't much opportunity for conquest.

Marsh announced yesterday that it had 60 days to find a buyer or they would close the remaining 44 stores 40 in Indiana and 4 in Ohio
looks like the end of an era for the once proud store  Founded in Muncie Indiana . Im thinking that some of there newer stores might be purchased  by another chain  Giant eagle has opened one location and also several get go stores  Possible they will pick up a few locations

Giant Eagle and Kroger would be the most obvious suitors for many of the stores, with the remainder going mostly to Supervalu-supplied independents. The marketability of the former pharmacy locations (with their lucrative liquor licenses) has declined. This is happening while Chicagoland co-op Central Grocers implodes, with Supervalu and AWG appearing to be the big winners in securing former CG clients. Even CG-owned grocers are relying on SVU to keep the shelves stocked.

Doubtful that Kroger would  want any of the locations as they are prety  much  in most areas already that Marsh is  plus Kroger is concentrating on there Marketplace stores to compete with the Walmart supercenter and Meijers

18 stores still up for grabs. Kroger is expected to operate some stores and keep paying on dark leases for the rest.

I feel bad for the employees of those stores though and that Marsh store has some of the best meats and an awesome chicken salad  that i will miss  plus the salad bar and there 5.00 sub

I swear, in five years the only supermarket left will be the grocery section in Walmart. Good grief.
