This will be the third instance of Meijer taking over a shuttered Super Kmart. This one it involves the location in Bradley, Illinois, a suburb of Kankakee located 50 miles south of Chicago. Looks like my prediction from 2014 will finally happen.

Makes sense in that they are similar enough stores - would probably happen more often but for the fact that Meijer is somewhat limited in their territory and there isn't a similar chain in other areas to do this.

True.

If you want to get in idea of what the Bradley "Super Meijer" will appear after the renovation is finished, visit the Meijer store in Portage, Indiana. That one is a former Super Kmart also. The Lincoln Park, Michigan Meijer store is a lot different on the interior and still has a Super Kmart exterior.

Meijer swallowing up old Super Kmarts has me wondering if the one that was planned for Avon, OH, here is still happening, or if they're going to buy out Lorain's Super K, force it out of business, and move in down there. Yes, it would hurt the bustling Lear Road interchange area, but it'd save Meijer some money if they can just move right into a freshly-closed Super Kmart. It's a larger store - it still has the Food Court window area and the seating - but they'd have to end the RadAir lease on the Auto Center area and expand into there before they could move in.

I'm only throwing ideas around because Avon's not listed on meijer.com's new stores list for 2016, and it was originally supposed to open this coming Summer. It could also explain why the rumored plans for all of the Super K stores to be turned into Kmarts with larger grocery areas seem to have missed this one. Heck, if Meijer moves into Super K and helps to revitalize the area, maybe the old Kmart plaza across the street could get a new lease on life, too!
