Lake Compounce is the oldest continuously operated theme park in the United States. It's located in Central Connecticut and straddles the Bristol/Southington line. After struggling for most of the early 90s where they were only open for 3 days a year they have enjoyed much success after Kennywood Entertainment bought the place in the late 90s. In '09 Palace Entertainment bought out Kennywood Entertainment.

BRISTOL/SOUTHINGTON â€" The U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration has cited Lake Compounce Family Theme Park for 18 serious violations of workplace safety standards following a six-month investigation.

In its report, OSHA determined the company exposed employees spraying coatings on park equipment and working with caustic chemicals in the park’s paint room to chemical, burn and respirator hazards. Lake Compounce is a sister company of Palace Entertainment Holdings LLC, Newport Beach, Calif.

“These conditions exposed Lake Compounce Family Theme Park employees to serious burn, fire, chemical burn, electric shock and eye, face and hand injuries,” said Warren Simpson OSHA’s area director in Hartford.”

The company has 15 business days to respond to the findings. A meeting with OSHA and park management is set for Thursday. Compounce and Palace representatives could not immediately be reached for comment.

More details are forthcoming.

It's been a few years since I been. I got in for free on my friend's Bring A Buddy Day Free with his Season Pass. I'm not friends with that person any more. Hopefully I'll be going this summer with a friend from and his girlfriend and another friend or 2 of ours.

I've never been to Lake Compounce!   :(

I love Lake Compounce. The little leaguers (during the World Series) go there  with ESPN..

I haven't found any official information, but supposedly Lake Compounce has shut down The Lake Compounce Sky Ride, which is a "ski lift" ride up Mount Southington. They supposedly shut it down after a teenage girl got hurt on a similar ride at Six Flags in New York. One rumor is that it's shut down permanently. The other rumor that it will be reopened with more safety features in the 2018 operating season.

Which makes no sense, since the one involved in the issue has reopened, with a small modification to have a bar between the legs (which would prevent the sliding out issue, if it was really one, though one time in 57 years doesn't seem like it).

I forgot to mention that the source about the rumor about the ride closure is a Facebook Page called "The Lake Compounce Fan Club". It's an unofficial page where fans of thr park can post about the park.

It's officially the Lake Compounce Sky Ride is closed permanently. Company officials deny it's because of what happened at Six Flags, but it's very unusual for a ride to be closed permanently in the middle of the operating season.

Those "sky rides" were kind of once a staple at amusement parks, but many park removed them over time.
