The Upper Valley Mall a rundown mall in Springfield, Ohio has sold for $2.65 million. The mall is only 70% occupied and recently lost Macy's and JCP.

Most malls would KILL to be 70% occupied these days.

I have been in several which would not appear to break the 50% barrier.

Maybe so, but losing 2 anchors back to back isn't good.

No, it's not.  That's what doomed Toledo's Southwyck Mall (a beautiful, impressive place back
when I lived out there).

What a deal. A $20 million mall for $2.65 million.

Exactly. I can name you several malls in Metro Detroit that were doomed.

  • old Wonderland Mall (dead)
  • old Tel-Twelve Mall (dead)
  • Northland Center (dead)
  • Eastland Center (heading there)
  • Summit Place Mall (dead)
  • old Livonia Mall (dead)
  • old Universal Mall (dead)

The Pontiac Silverdome was sold to it's current owner for $500,000!  What many homes in
that area sold for.

Unfortunately it was still a bad investment.  A storm tore it's fabric roof off, and his insurance
company refused to pay the claim.  The interior of the stadium sat open to the elements while they
fought in court.  Eventually too much damage was done and the place is now slated for demolition.

What was the Silverdome used for after the Lions left...?

It closed for a few years, then reopened and used for some minor events then it closed again. I heard rumors back around that time that the Silverdome was prospected to be the home stadium of an MLS expansion team for Detroit though.
