I think Jefferson Ward would have made it bigger if they had more locations. I knew of one. Today, its a Sam's Club. Before it was a Jefferson Wards, it was a Two Guys.

Anyone know how many locations this chain had and where they were located? My parents never heard of them.

They were mostly located in Pennsylvania, Delaware, New Jersey and (I think?) Maryland.

The only time I ever heard of them was on the rare occasions when I watched Philadelphia TV stations. (didn't come in very clear at home) The unique name also picqued my curiosity but I've never seen one. No ads on Baltimore/DC TV. The late 80s was when I started seeing tons of Bradlees ads; none of those chains were around where I live.

In the Philadelphia area, most of the Jefferson Ward (later Bradlees) stores were former Two Guys locations.  The exceptions are:

  • Kirkwood Plaza, Wilmington, DE [Almart]
  • Concord Mall, Wilmington, DE [Almart]
  • Burlington, NJ [J. M. Fields]
  • Stratford, NJ [J. M. Fields]
  • Woodbury, NJ] [J. M. Fields]
  • Norristown, PA [J. M. Fields]
  • Glenholden, PA [J. M. Fields]
  • Bethlehem, PA[Almart] (Did not become a Bradlees)

There was a Jefferson Ward in a neighboring town near me, I've never seen the building, so I have no idea what ever became of it. I think it was one of the only WV locations.

When my mother worked for Montgomery Wards in the 80's, she had to help in setting up that location for its grand opening.

1986 Bethlehem, Pennsylvania final day of business. As seen in this article, this location did not become a Bradlees

JoshAustin610

The Bethlehem Jefferson Ward was a two story building; the top floor became Caldor in 1993 until it closed in 1999, then became Ames from 2000 to 2002, and is now Wells Fargo offices.  The lower floor was vacant until 1999 when Marshall's opened (right after Caldor closed upstairs); their entrance is the one pictured.

North Coventry actually was a JM Fields originally, with an adjoining Pantry Pride.
