The former Showcase Cinemas that overlooks I-84 in East Hartford, Connecticut may become a small casino. Both of Connecticut's casinos (which are located in Southeast Connecticut) are looking at opening smaller casinos in Northern Connecticut due to future competition from the new massive casino project underway in Springfield, Mass. The article does not say whether they will reuse the old theater building or demolish it. The theater closed in 2006.

Marc's Note: According to this article the movie theater company still owns the property. I willing to be that this is why it remains empty 9 years after closing. It's should be noted that the former Sony Theater in the Forestville section of Bristol was successfully transformed into retail space. The difference between the 2 is that the theater building in Forestville is owned by the landlord of the shopping center. (He also owns a construction company).
