The Albany Krispy Kreme is now closed. I was there on the last day, June 17th, 2006. It is not known what will be done with the building.

The krispie Kreme in newington which closed this year, is going to become a bank and what the town has said in a news paper article, i will keep people posted to which exact bank it will be!

AmesNewington

It seems as Newington Restaurants that close are becoming banks. Carrington's restaurant down the street, a steak and seafood place is now a big Sovereign Bank. Recently, I feel that every turnpike store should be filled. What about Levitz up the street, what will that become.

TRU, you and I and anyone else who knows the Turnpike knows there is no need for another restaurant on the turnpike!

We only have 2 in the entire Memphis area and the newest closed down within months after opening up.  Since they are in the area, we cannot have Dunkin Donuts and I would take them any day over KK.

It was kind of neat when they first came here and you'd drive by and see the "hot" sign light up, but who cares since everything tastes just like a glazed donut.   Dunkin Donuts has lots more variety, but we have to drive 2 hours to get to one.

Ok, so i think, i am not 100% sure about this. It seems the citibank is the bank that is going to move into here. I know, the a bank did approach the town about taking over, but nevera name was mention. I was just reading this article, and citi bank is expanding into the hartford region and newington is one of the towns that their moving in. Now, i know they have started construction on the building, they ripped everything out and are putting new walls, but i think not 100% sure its citibank that is moving in here. But i have a huge feelings its going to be citibank, it just makes sense, i will try to keep everyone posted.

They're also putting a CitiBank in the former KB Toyworks in the Shaw's Plaza in Southington.

Another NY location closing. This time, it is the Tonowanda location.

Here's an article from today's Hartford Cournat about Citi-Bank taking over the former Newington Krispy Kreme:

Newington CT had the first Krispy Kreme in New-England. On October 8, 2002, one week before our Ames closed, a huge line of cars packed the Berlin Turnpike leading to Krispy Kreme just to try a donut, as if they had never tried a donut in their lives. Well everyone, after 3 years, it's now closed. What was such a craze back in 2002 is now a stale thing. On Tuesday night, they covered up the "Hot Now" sign in front, took a sign on the building down, covered windows and doors with paper and employees and people who work for the store pulled up a truck to the back of the store, loaded everything left in the store, and fled away. On Wednesday Morning, people getting their morning snack waited in line just as in 2002, to now find out the donut shop is no longer open. It was a crazy and stupid way to close, no notice at all. They still will sell their products at Shaw's in Newington, just up the road. There is one in Milford CT, and some at the casinos. Krispy Kreme did many weird things at their Newington store like smuggling products to neighboring supermarkets at 3AM in the morning. The full story can be found at courant.com, and locals WFSB, NBC30, and WTNH.

Ames:

I was about the 5th  person in line when it was opening. I was talking to a family - who camped there to be the first customer. I remember that the WTIC's traffic reporter was telling people that Berlin Turnpike was packed.
I bought a pair of KKD boxers and a T-shirt while I was waiting to be served. KKD are plentiful in Florida, but now Dunkin is opening stores here. The Hess stations sold KKD but now they are selling Dunkin. :)
Carrington's restaurant is CLOSED? That used to be a Mr Steak franchise.

Krispy Kreme in Quebec City (2007).  That restaurant must be doing good...  The company opened stores in Canada in 2001, but by 2005, they closed 6 of the 18 locations.  Today, Quebec City is one of only 7 locations throughout the country!

This former Krispy Kreme is about to be vacant again. It's one of 10 CitiBank branches in Connecticut that will be closing. Another one that's closing is in Bristol next to Planet Fitness in Price Chopper Plaza. It should be noted that neither The Newington Citi Bank nor the one in Bristol has been open 2 years yet.

These types of spaces on the turnpike are snatched up pretty fast, especially this spot. It took a year to fill this spot, unlike when Bradlees, then Caldor and Ames took longer because they were big spaces. I can see either another bank or restaurant/fast food place taking CitiBank's place in a flash. The building is way out in the open in one of the busiest strips on the pike. My hope is that Olive Garden or Red Robin moves to the Berlin Turnpike.

Also: The AT&T store on the Berlin Turnpike next to IHOP will most likely move in to the former Atlanta Bread location in the future. I also believe that Hops Restaurant is not closing in Newington at this point. It was said they were closing on these boards, however they were at the town's Business showcase a few weeks ago giving out food, so I suspect they're staying.

How about putting a KFC where the old Krispy Donut was?

beachgal26

We had 2 here in Memphis for awhile and they are gone.  But, the good news is that we are supposed to be getting Dunkin Donuts back in our area within the next year.  At least now, I won't have to go all the way toward Nashville to get my donut fix!

:yup:

We had Krispy Kreme up next to Westmoreland Mall in the Giant Eagle plaza. Freestanding building built specifically for that. It lasted maybe 2 years, and that's being generous. Yet the Dunkin Donuts across the way is still there for more than the 9 years I've lived here. Unsure what KK became...gotta go back up and look...
Jaime...BRADLEES FOREVER!!!

Hey, I used to live near your area in the late 70's when we lived in Pittsburgh.  I still love and miss PA (except in the winter after the millionth snowfall)!

:yup:

GothicPrincess

well howdy do!!! it still stinks in winter...but I think snow is gone for a while. gonna be 43 tonight but highs been in the 70's. KK really didn't last that long around here compared to tons of other places...

Also of note is there's a circuit city gob sign right next to the trash can at the entrance door. (there's a circuit city near it)

Krispy Kreme opened a few new locations scattered around the Philadelphia area in 2002-2003, but were gone by summer 2005. They still have full-service kiosks at gas stations like Mobil and CITGO, and a selection of KK products at stores like Acme, Wal-Mart Supercenter, etc.

Well looks as if Krispy Kreme wants to tackle philly yet again
