  • General Cinema Franklin Mills Mall 10
  • General Cinema Deptford Mall 6 (Opened as General Cinema Deptford Mall 4)
  • General Cinema Echelon Mall 4 (Opened as Cinema Echelon Mall)
  • General Cinema Northeast 4 (opened as Cinema I & II)
  • General Cinema Walnut Mall 3 (Opened as Cinema Walnut Mall I & II & III)

General Cinema Corporation was founded in 1935 by Phillip Smith.  Phillip Smith's grandson is the current owner of the Philadelphia Eagles, Jeffery Lurie.

I know of a few GCC locations around here...

* Parmatown, Ohio - Was located where (the former?) Dick's Sporting Goods is currently. It was a five-screen complex with just a mall entrance, I believe.

* Elyria, Ohio - Had a few independent owners after GCC pulled out. Currently run by Atlas Cinemas. 8 screens.

* Brooklyn, Ohio - Ridge Park Square - Currently AMC Theaters.

General Cinema exited Michigan when they sold off their three theaters to Goodrich Quality Theaters, effective April 1, 1999. Here's what they were:

  • Canton - opened May 1985, was very profitable during it's last years under GCC, since added a seventh screen, was supposed to add an eighth screen but it never happened. Currently run by Goodrich as the Canton Cinema 7.
  • Lansing - I have no idea where that was at.
  • Novi - torn down I guess?

I could think of some GC movie theaters that were in the Buffalo, NY area

. Amherst (University 8 ) - Torn down
. Cheektowaga (Thruway Mall) - Now Movieland 8 (which has closed and I think was torn down)
. Eastern Hills Mall - Now an independent (showing independent movies that is) movie theater (still has the old GCC "Cinema I-II-III" outside)
. Walden Galleria Mall - Became AMC, then closed and torn down for a mall expansion

Here's an example of a GCC "Cinema" sign with roman numerals
