Nick flagship store to launch in London’s Leicester Square
by Aaron Hutchins, Kidscreen

Dora and SpongeBob are setting down major roots in West London’s tourist core next year. Nickelodeon Viacom Consumer Products has partnered with Florida-based Entertainment Retail Enterprises to launch the UK’s Nickelodeon flagship specialty retail store at No. 1 Leicester Square (pictured, exterior rendering).

With plans to open in Q2 2015, the multi-level store will feature multimedia and interactive elements to showcase well-known kids properties such as Dora, SpongeBob and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. The shop will also feature products from select global licensees.

Nickelodeon and Entertainment Retail Enterprises have teamed up this year to open Nickelodeon stores in both Panama and Riyadh. Saudi Arabia will get a second retail location by the end of 2014, in Jeddah. And even more stores are planned to launch throughout 2015 and 2016 across five continents.

Most of the Nickelodeon Stores and in our country are located in theme parks like Universal Orlando in Florida, Universal Hollywood in California, or Nickelodeon Universe Mall of America. Nickelodeon also has a themed shop within Toys "R" Us Times Square in New York, as well as a Nickelodeon Stuff Store at Nickelodeon Suites Resort Hotel in Orlando, Florida. Nickelodeon opened in Leicester Square, London, England. Nickelodeon just opened another Nickelodeon Store, this one opened in Panama City, Panama. Riyadh, Saudi Arabia will be their next location, as well as Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Moscow, Russia also will get a Nickelodeon Store as well. Right now, in the United States, there are no plans to operate standalone Nickelodeon stores in the future.

If I were the CEO Nickelodeon I'd open more Nickelodeon stores in malls and other shopping centers as well as having an online store selling Nickelodeon stuff.

I don't really see why there is a SpongeBob store at Universal Orlando. Universal cut ties with Nickelodeon years ago and the park doesn't have any Nickelodeon related rides or attractions.

If Universal had ditched Nickelodeon, they should have closed the SpongeBob store! ;)

They still do a Universal Superstar parade featuring Nickelodeon characters on one of the parade floats at the Universal Parks, so it makes sense that they open a store, since Nickelodeon hasn't completely severed ties with Universal, unlike what happened with the former Paramount Parks shortly after Cedar Fair bought them.
