Are car washes becoming a thing of the past? The reason I ask is because there are several with-in 15 miles of where I live that are for sale.

1. Sno-White Car Wash - 12 Farmington Ave Bristol, CT
2. Sno-White Car Wash - Whiting Street Plainville, CT
3. Sno-White Car Wash - Pine Street Bristol, CT
4. Mr. Bubble's Car Wash - Broad Street Bristol, CT
5. Car Wash (Name unknown) - Corner of Wolcott Street and Stillson Road Waterbury, CT.
And there are 1 or 2 For Sale in New Britain, CT

Some of the ones that I had been going to for years and years have gone away.

SuperSonic Car Wash on Banksville Rd. in Pittsburgh.  Building has been closed and in mothballs for at least
20 years now.  For a time someone was using the parking lot to operate a used car lot out of a trailer.

Crafton-Ingram Shopping Center Car Wash - had closed down when I went by there around Easter

Car Wash on McNeilly Rd.  closed about ten years ago.  Building has been converted into a repair garage
where they work on very large construction-type vehicles.

I think these things reach a point where the mechanical systems break down and the owners
are not reaping enough profits from them to replace the entire works.

A lot of little service stations which had attached car washes closed them up and made more square footage for retail. I'm only assuming goods inside of the store are much profitable than a car wash. I could imagine the upkeep is expensive as well.
