Aptera Motors was a car company that existed from 2005 to 2011. They were known for their high-efficiency electric road vehicles. Their first product was the three-wheeled, two-seated Aptera 2 Series. The name "Aptera" comes from the Greek word for "wingless", a nod to their light-aircraft-inspired design and construction techniques, and is correctly pluralized to 'apterae' or 'apteras' However, Aptera Motors maintains that 'aptera' translates to 'wingless flight'. The Aptera Typ-1 prototype automobile appeared in J. J. Abrams' 2009 "Star Trek" film.
