Some development will be going on in Southington and Bristol, Connecticut over the next few months.

PETSMART will be building a store in the plaza with Target and Lowe's off of West Street in Southington. - While I haven't seen any newspaper articles about this on the job search website INDEED.COM there were several ads for positions at their Southington store located at I-84 and Route 229. (Which is where Target and Lowe's are located).

The new owners of The Clarion Hotel - the only hotel in Bristol located just off of Route 229 near Lake Compounce amusement park plans a $12 million renovation project to convert the Clarion into an upscale Double Tree Hotel.

A CVS Pharmacy and a branch of Thomaston Savings Bank are being built at one of the busiest intersections in the city of Bristol - Route 229 and Mountain Road across the street from Aldis.

A long vacant and long forgotten piece of land on Queen Street in Southington is going through environmental clean up and will be replaced by a 30,000 Square Foot retail building. This spot is in between The Outback Steakhouse and the Beijing Chinese Restaurant.

Other notes:

Simply Wireless in Southington moved to a bigger location on Queen Street taking the place of a mini-mart, which took part of the old Patten Brook Restaurant.

Also in Southington a nutrition/health food store opened next to Simply Wireless's new location. One 1200 Sq. Foot Vacancy remains where a pornography shop operated.

A new office building is being built on Queen Street next to another office building across the street from Pattenbrook Plaza

A Liquor store is supposedly looking at the old Jaguar Dealership next to the new Queen Street Rite Aid in Southington. Valenti's moved their dealership to Hartford several years ago because they didn't want to have Rite Aid as a neighbor.

The 7000 Sq. Foot former Hollywood Video Remains vacant next to Price Chopper in Southington.

The former Ericka's Diner on the corner of Queen and Loper remains vacant. It along with adjacent property is one of the last pieces of land to be developed on Queen Street.

Boost Mobile opened in the former Pocket Wireless location next to D'Angelos in Southington. Pocket went bankrupt and discontinued service in Connecticut several months ago.

A Print Shop opened int he former Pocket Wireless location next to Sherwood Cleaners in Bristol across from The Annex Plaza.

Other Vacancies on Queen Street:

3 store fronts in Shoprite Plaza totaling 34,000 Sq. Feet (including the former Bernie's).

Randy's Wooster Street Pizza is supposedly closed for remodel, but I have yet to see any work trucks and it's been closed for more than 2 weeks.

A gym called The Southington Atheletic Club is vacant as well. It's in The Oak Hill Mall.

In Bristol:

There are still lots of vacancies in The Bristol Commons/The Annex Plaza including the former KB Toyworks, The Former FYE, The Former Citi Bank, and a couple other store fronts.

The 54000 Sq. Foot Shaw's Building remains vacant.

The former Marshall's in Big Lot's Plaza remains vacant.

Quizno's remains closed more than a year after a sign appeared in their window last May that read "Closed due to Electrical Problems". That's in the Stop & Shop Plaza.

Although no word on when groundbreaking will be - Apartments/Condos, a hotel, retail and office space, are all planned on the 17 acres of vacant land where The Mall at Bristol Centre used to be located.

Updates:

BRISTOL:
The CVS opened in October 2011 and Thomaston Savings Bank opened in the spring of 2012.
The former Quizno's is now Moe's Southwest Grill.
The former Shaw's will become Walmart Neighborhood Market in 2013.
Construction/Conversion of the old Clarion Hotel to Double Tree is well underway.
The Bristol Commons Plaza (Price Chopper Plaza) and Big Lots Plaza continue to struggle to attract tenants. Both plaza suffered from several more vacancies since my last post on this subject.

Southington:
Boost Mobile closed and now is a Becker's Gold Buying location.
World Wine & Spirits is now open as of Spring 2012 in the former Jaguar Dealership.
The same 3 stores remain vacant in Shoprite Plaza.
Randy's Pizza on Queen Street is now 7-Eleven. Opened in March 2012.
Randy's Pizza opened in a much smaller location downtown on Center Street.
The former Hollywood Video became Jenny K's Cleaner's, Pizza Hut (delivery and carryout), Tommy's Tanning, and Luz Spa & Salon.
Beijing Chinese Restaurant next to 7-Eleven closed for good after the freak blizzard in October 2011.
They bulldozed the vacant building next to Beijing, but site remains vacant.
The plaza where Erika's Diner was (across from Price Chopper) was supposed to be bulldozed and become an Olive Garden, but that fell through. Only business remaining open is a liquor store which does little to no business.
The former Ponderosa which was 2 restaurants since then remains empty.

Southington Rumors:

Lake Compouce Amusement Park will be building an RV Park.

A new hotel will be built somewhere along West Street Route 229.

Panera Bread will be building a restaurant on West Street somewhere near Target/Lowes.
