When I walked by earlier (without my camera) 4 of the were opened or removed and there was construction, or destruction of some sort going on.  By the time I got back they had boarded up the entrance.  It was pretty pretty huge with it's own service garage.

From what i know, Ames did not used the entire building.  The store used 71,241 sf. of space and the rest and auto center section were vacant (or used as warehouse)..

The store will become a movie theater by the end of the year.  The cinema will take 40,000 of the 90,000 available sf.

Thanks for the info.
I never saw this ames before, I just saw it on my way up to visit my sister. I though t it was odd there was a garage there.

Ames did not bothered to board it up or paint it with Ames colors.  We can still read Tune-Up, Tires, Lubrification and see the "Auto Center" labelscar in original Montgomery Ward font.

The beige area bellow the Ames sign used to be full length windows of the Montgomery Wards restaurant, I only ate there once when I was 4 or 5 before they closed the food service.
There is a lot in store for you where clean, fresh and good make a GRAND UNION.
