The surroundings around the Woolworth tower always seem to change like roads were where builds where and stuff, but the building itself never changes!

This former Woolworth that opened in the 20's in Los Angeles on 617 South Broadway is now a Foot Locker. You can still see the old Woolworth lettering though.

I wonder where this one is.

storehistoryguy

I only know this Woolworth is in a town called Lakewood, I'm not sure of the state though.

Here is another view of it. There appears to be an old JC Penny next door to it.

The Woolco in my area had a very interesting history. It started off life in the mid 60's as a Warwick Shopper's World which was a typical department store. It had a cafeteria and such. Across the street was a Zayre. Now in the 70's Zayre bought out the Warwick Shopper's World chain and converted all of them to Zayre. As you can guess they now had two Zayre across the street from one another. Woolco moved in around 77-78 I guess, hard to recall as I was rather young. I do remember the grand opening with all the bunting and my mother taking me into the mall to Brighams for coffee ice cream. Woolco closes and several months later reopens as a Channel Home Improvement. Gone is the mall entrance from the store. Channel shuts down and half the store is converted into a Marshall's while the other half sits vacant. It was weird looking at it at night, one half lit up and the other half dark. Eventually an Rx Place drugstore moves into the vacant part, a small section is converted for a hair dressing school. Rx Place closes and reopens as another discount drugstore but going inside one can tell not even half the floor space is in use. I doubt this one will last. Poking around in the backrooms though one can see old Woolco label scars on the door
"Through the millennia, the Time Lords of Gallifrey led a life of ordered calm, protected against all threats from lesser civilisations by their great power. But this was to change. Suddenly, and terribly, the Time Lords faced the most dangerous crisis in their long history..."--the Doctor
