A house that was a used sporting goods store and coffee house on Queen Street remains empty and for sale.

Finder's Keepers a long time consignment shop on Queen Street in a small strip mall next to Wildside Tattoo closed this summer after the owners decided to retire. Brookside Pawn is moving into that space from a freestanding building across the street.

Pep Boys opened in a small strip mall on Queen Street near the Plainville line next to Kettle Bagels and El Pulpo Mediterranean Tapas Restaurant. Pep Boys replaced an independent garage called Auto Master. This brings that spot full circle as that was the original home of the national muffler shop chain "Monroe' which moved to their own building in front of The Days Inn. In only took over 20 years for Southington to get a Pep Boys. In the mid 1990s the owners of Queen Plaza (AMES Plaza) got the approval to build a Pep Boy there. They built a Ruby Tuesday (now I-Hop) and Outback instead.

Bricks and Minifigs a used Lego Store in a small strip mall called Perry Plaza just celebrated their 1 year anniversary. There are 2 vacancies in this plaza. Aside from a smoke shop called Rock and Smoke I can't tell you what else is in this plaza. That's how often the tenants change.

In the the River Bend Plaza a small 2 building plaza at 1079 and 1049 Queen Street a new barber shop opened called Barber Shop Ten Forty Nine. Also in that plaza a second State Farm Insurance Office took one of two spaces formerly occupied by  Golden Circle - a franchise of Kirby Vacuum.

Aria Medical Aesthetics which was shared a building at 895 Queen Street with Peter Dominic Salon moved into an office building at 941 Queen Street.

H&H Electrical which was located in Patton Brook Plaza next to a light bulb store closed.

Radio Shack is the only vacancy in the Queen Plaza where Bob's Furniture, TJ MAXX, and Bed Bath Beyond are located. T-Mobile opened in a former Bakery next to Gobi Mongolian Grill.

Verizon Wireless Zone next to Noodles and Company in a strip mall at 826-842 Queen Street will be moving into the new development at 775-811 Queen Street in February. This location dates back to the 90s as a cell phone store called The Car Phone Store.

Work continues on the new development at 775-811 Queen Street. Aldi is opening October 8th. Chick Fil A is opening in January. Framing is up for the building that will house Chipotle and I assume Verizon and possibly another business. Work continues converting the former 7-Eleven into Go Urgent Care. Other possible tenants in this new development might include AAA Travel and Mission BBQ Restaurant. The developer owns two houses on the other side of the former 7-Eleven and plans on demolishing them. Chipotle is expected to open during the 1st Quarter of 2018 and Verizon hopes to open in February.

In the ShopRite Plaza work continues on the construction of a dental office in a space in-between Buffalo Wild Wings and Moe's.

The former TD Homer's Sports Bar at the corner of Queen and Laning remains empty 10 months after closing.

The new Hartford Health Care Building being built next to Price Chopper on the property formerly occupied by The Knights Inn is nearly finished.

In the Queen Bee Plaza at 328-360 Queen Street, UPS opened in the former Hollywood Video building in space previously occupied by a carry out Pizza Hut location. UPS had been located inside Price Chopper. Renadlo's Apizza opened in space formerly occupied by a local chain called Peope's Choice. This marks Renadlo's reopening more than a year and a half after their previous location on North Main Street (Route 10) burned down in March 2016.

In Walmart Plaza. There is still one vacancy. Two more vacancies will be popping up as CT Lighting Center is rumored to be relocating to Graham Place. And NAMCO Pool & Patio is rumored to be closing. Both of these are part of the former Super Foodmart that closed around 20 years ago.

Moving onto West Street Route 229.

A new development is under construction at 1095 West Street. Tenants will include Popeye's, a coffee shop, a pizza place, and a Marriott Hotel. This is across from the Hilton Homewood Suites that opened a few years back.

The 2nd Phase of the Lowe's/Target Development which was built in 2008 was constructed. HomeGoods, Pet Valu, Michael's, and a local chain called Chip's Family Restaurant all opened this spring. 2 or 3 spaces remain. Along with 3 other pad sites in addition to the Chip's.
