I dislike wal-mart just as much as the next guy, but you have to admit, somehow we end up there every once in a while. But did anyone notice the theme change? At my Wal-mart it is now back the the tan and brown like in the early 90's, the interior is redisigned with sections slightly moved around, and new wood stlye floors here and there. Doesn't really even feel like WM, but they can't try to hid under their new image, I still don't like em.

I liked it back when Wal-Mart was a regional chain, back when you has several department stores to choose from, not just Wal-Mart, Target, or K-Mart, of which the later we no longer have in our city.

I went to my Wal-Mart which was just remodeled a little while ago, and it is so dark in there! I don't know if it is the chinese light bulbs or what, but it is awful. The Kmart and Targer are 5x brighter. (This Wal-mart doesn't have the warehouse style ceiling):o

The store opened in early 1997....one of the 1st Wal-Marts in the Philly/NJ area. (It is in a Philly suburb)

In the Newington CT store, as of August, they closed down the Wal-Mart snack bar and are now opening a Subway restaurant in the store. Is this the same case for all Wal-Marts?

truviking05

My Wal-Marts all have McDonald's in them...

My 2 closest wal-marts (former Channel hardware and Bradlees in oldest store to newest order) both have snack bars and they usually aren't open the last time I went there

Wal-Mart had to close more than 120 stores in the path of Hurricane Katrina.  (including Sam's)  Mainly because of power loss.

At one point, a CNN reporter standing outside catched an "R" letter that came off a Supercenter nearby !!

From Forbes.com :

Giant discount retailer Wal-Mart Stores (nyse: WMT - news - people ) became a major target for looters rummaging in areas affected by Hurricane Katrina on Wednesday, with thieves hitting the store's gun racks while also ransacking for food and clothing.

The Wal-Mart store in the Lower Garden District in New Orleans was missing its entire stock of guns, according to the local Times-Picayune newspaper, which also said looting for guns and other goods was prevalent in other stores.

That's just too bad about the tragedy and the lootings. Even Wal-Mart doesn't deserve this; plus, it affects its employees and community who really don't need looters at a time like this.

Hilarious isnt it??:tumble:

Here's what happened to the vacant Wal-Mart in Waterville, ME.  It's now a Marden's, their largest store complete with a fleet of Frank's Nursery Carts.

It's funny to see inside the store.  They painted the registers from blue to red.  There is a red stripe on the wall all around the store and the layout is very different, with a whole new mix of merchandise, in a former Wal-Mart shell.  They even flled the former Grill with a local eatery.

BTW, the Wal-Mart did not closed, it just moved away to a new 204,000 sq.-ft Supercenter.

Know what I've noticed? Sprawl-Warts have become small malls!! There's everything in them now- Even barber shops!! Anyone else notice this?

Yes I noticed this when I was visiting relatives in South Florida which is flooded with supercenters.

I saw the following inside this one store:

A Hair Cuttery type place, "Smart Styles" or something like that
A mail/shipping/packaging center
A Bank
A McDonalds (Which is probably a Subway now as Wal-mart is ditching the McDonalds)
A Vision Center
A Portrait Studio
and last but not least...a gas station!

I am glad I don't have any Supercenters here.

Here is the Wal-Mart under construction in my homwtown.  After years of rumors and speculation, they are finally building a store.   It will probably open by december or early in 2006.

Well, i don't often say it but I mentioned it in the "about yourself" thread.  My hometown is St.George, PQ Canada.  It's unbelievable but true.  I'm a frequent traveler in New England.  My town is probably the last one with a population of 35,000 without a Wal-Mart... !
