When did it first gain brand recognition? Or become "mainstream" as they call it. I know they started opening stores in New Jersey in 1989. I think the first time I discovered it was in 1995 or 1996.

goto history. 1979! haha

I know it was founded in 1979, but I doubt it was an established brand. I wonder if their logo and/or store designs were different.

Well, 1995 seems to have been a big year for them. One near me is a former Jamesway, so it probably opened around then. I found a Home Depot commercial on YouTube from 1995. There was even a fire at one in Quincy, MA that year! :holysh: And again, the first time I went to one/saw one was in 1995 or 1996.

The one that used to be in Patchogue, NY (corner of 112 & Sunrise) opened in 1990, and closed about a year or so ago with the opening of the Bellport Outlet Center location down the road on Sunrise.

The HD is abandoned now, but a Raymore and Flanagan, Homegoods, and another store are planned there. That place has been there forever, with it being Modell's Shoppers World before that. It's probably not of much interest now since HD probably sucked up all the interesting parts of that building and it's locked like a fortress.
