Didn't see this one.

This is the Family Dollar in Coxsackie on Route 9W.  It used an existing building, and is directly across the road from the Grand Union plaza, which leads to the thought that this might have been the Grand Union at one point (seems I've seen similar style building(s) up north as Grand Unions).

here is the family dollar in laconia nh where o shea's department store was on main st in downtown. Family dollar is in a lot of places. it is even in the next town over in gilford

BillyGr

The first is the store in Saugerties (on Route 32/212) - it's in a plaza and is in part of an older (I think) Grand Union - not the last one (which is still empty), but a previous location.

2nd is the store in Pittsfield (MA), on the main street - another older building but no idea what it was.

Last is a store on Central Avenue in Albany - the Family Dollar used the front part, the food co-op (see sign in picture) is behind it - the building is fairly deep - again not sure what it was before.

This is the Chatham store - it is in the plaza with the (former) Grand Union that is now Price Chopper on Route 66 (no, not that one!).

I always found Family Dollar stores to be your typical, ghetto, hole in the wall discount store, with stuff just thrown on the shelves with no real organiztion.  Although I have seen some decent ones.

With my new job I started about a month and a half ago I'm a biller for a facility services company called National Glass and Gate International.  Basically they handle all facility services for chain stores, from taking the call to dispatching the techs and making sure the job is completed.  We have accounts from Helzberg Diamonds and Gap to Kmart and Saks, as well as individual accounts.

Family Dollar is one of our biggest accounts and I'm the biller assigned to it.  I handle about 50 to 60 invoices a day, and these are by far the most hilarious calls out of all our accounts.  We get work orders from corporate for individual stores as well as handle emergency calls directly from the stores.  You would be surprised how many cars drive through Family Dollar stores on a weekly basis, as well as how many stores have their windows shot out.  The most common emergency calls are burglars breaking the glass doors and frames.

Texas is definitely the rowdiest state of all, I see more break ins and robberies from there than anywhere.  A store in Dallas has been broken into 10 nights in the past 2 weeks, we have sent locksmiths out to replace the same locks five times, and a glass company out to replace the glass just about every night.  It's pretty bad when the locksmith even emails you stating that he "doesn't mind replacing these, but he's out of locks and finds this to be huge waste of Family Dollars money."  The worst part is their corporate office is aware of this and is paying all costs, we have quoted multile times for stronger locks and gates, and as of Friday FD has done nothing!

The one in Bristol across the street from the Abandoned Mall is a dump. The one on the other side of Bristol in the Big Lots Plaza is nice.

we have one that just opened a few months back in a more "lower class" shopping center. They do have some decent deals though and it's kinda a nice store when you need a few things that are a little better than the "dollar tree"

I work for the company that deals with the property maintenance for Family Dollar stores.  I am the biller for their account so I process every call that comes through.  You would not believe how much Family Dollar shells out each year on door glass and panic alarms alone.  Everyday I must deal with at least 20 smashed doors from break-ins.  Some people, especially in Texas, even sledgehammer through concrete walls and rooftops to break into these places.  If I were going to break into a store, I would at least do it at a store worth robbing.  The locations are generally in bad areas of town, very urban.  Where your typical dollar stores are located.  In Dallas I had one yesterday, whole storefront shattered out due to a shootout, good thing they use laminated glass!

there is a family dollar in south jersey that replaced a former gymnastics club, and while they slapped their logo over the gymnastics club's old sign, they didn't take down the little bar under the sign that says "directed by chris lynch". weird.

Some of the Family Dollars in Toledo are actually placed in relativity decent areas. Only a few are placed in the "urban" areas . One is even located near the University of Toledo, and is very popular with the college students.

I like Family Dollar. They carry decent products for some really great deals-- especially on cleaning products.

Yeah, there's a Family Dollar on every corner. Or a Dollar General.

Dollar Tree isn't as thick around here as the above mentioned. But we also have one called Simply A Dollar. The thing about those two unlike Family Dollar and Dollar General, is that they literally offer nearly everything in the store for a dollar or less.

Family Dollar seems alright, I've been in there a couple of times. I much prefer Dollar Tree, though, as their products are actually a dollar, and they sell more products that I am actually interested in purchasing, such as these:

which I adore and haven't been able to find anywhere else in town, so at the bare minimum they get my vote for that! :P

I like it okay. I went there today. They have Cherry Coke Zero in 20 oz bottles. (I didn't buy it tho).

The one in the Big Lots Plaza in Bristol, CT closed for good tonight (5/30) at 8PM. All other area locations remain open.

Marc82

Took this photo today of the closed Family Dollar in the Big Lots Plaza in Bristol. This store was only open about 4 or 5 years. Previously this was a CVS.

Something is moving into this old Family Dollar. Not sure what tho. There was a building permit in the window for remodeling the space, but it was issued in the name of an individual rather than the name of a business. Now if only something would go into the old Marshall's this plaza would be fully leased. Speaking of the plaza its for sale for $13 million. It's overpriced in my opinion.

Meanwhile the one in downtown Bristol across the street from the old Centre Mall Property continues to be open and looks like a dump.
