Wow great pics!! I was so sad when our local K-mart closed in 2002..I was there the last night it was open. The store was a mess. There were broken toys all over the floor and the shelves were really messy and empty and there was garbage everywhere. To make matters worse, right after it closed a group of kids broke in and trashed it even more. Then people started dumping stuff next to the store...it was so sad to see.:(

THIS KMART AND THE ONE ABOVE WAS THE ONE IN NORTH ADAMS MASS. IT CLOSED IN 2002 in the first wave of closings. I went there last year and 3 years ago and saw it vacant

My closest K-Mart is Cromwell CT. Does anyone know what they did, if anything, to that store? I know it was a Big K-Mart, but it wasn't the best looking from the outside compared to others. Can someone ride up and see it. My family would never take me.

There is now a Sears Essentials open in Keene, New Hampshire.

Also, the Burlington, VT Kmart still has its 70's logo

I HAVE BEEN TO THE KMART IN BURLINGTON VT IT IS VERY SMALL AND OLD AND DIRY AND, you are right, it does have the old school logo. I went there once three years ago and it is awful looking and in the same plaza as a dying mall. my mom hated it when she went there with me.

Wow, only two doors and are there windows in the front??? this was probably either one of the 1st few kmarts or a Kresge store

Back in the 70's it was quite common to see stores with a front wall of windows.  Many Kmart and Zayre were this way.  You could see the entire store from outside.

Ames, Woolco, Kmart and other covered the windows with brick or they left them in place but added panels.  This other Kmart is that way.

A Kmart near me recently put up signage announcing its change to a Sears Essential. This store is a little older, and I'd like to see what it looks like after conversion. It's definitely one of my area's cleaner Kmart stores. But we do have one location that is cattycornered from a Sears at a mall--you can literally stand in either store's parking lot and see straightaway to the other. I wonder if they'll close it--it's most definitely an old, dirty, underperforming store. Or maybe they'll just leave it as Kmart?
