The Macy's at Whitehall looks exactly like the one at the Rockaway Townsquare. I've been to both and been inside both, and they both look the same inside and out. They both were previously Bamberger's too.

As you probably already know today was the day Macy's went coast-to-coast changing names of former May Stores including Filenes and Kauffmans and I think other Federated Stores to Macy's. This however did not go over too well in Chicago where legendary Marshall Field's became Macy's.

Join the club, as we are also not happy that they bought our Goldsmith's stores (in business for over 100 years) and turned them into another chain.  I also hate to see them take over the Kaufmann's stores that I loved so much when we lived in PA and the Hecht's that I knew for so long in MD and VA.

i wasn't happy when they took over our Lazarus!

Sears is nowhere near as well regarded in Chicagoland as Marshall Fields was.  Sears has been a nationwide company for years and for a long time, has not had a flagship or corporate HQ presence in the Loop.  Marshall Fields to most Chicagoans, is Chicago.  Regardless of the fact that the company has been owned by BATUS, Dayton-Hudson/Target & May Co. and has had no Chicago ownership or dealings with the Fields family in years...people in Chicago still felt incredibly attached to that name.

The real problem is the continuing homogenization of our society.

Edit:  Sears does have a store on State Street now that they just opened a few years ago.  However, we're not talking the same type of store as the Marshall Field's down the street.  Not even the same league.

128,000 square foot macy's in crystal mall in waterford ct that opened in 1984 and was a jordan marsh. I am telling you the inside entrance and the mall is too much like the pheasant lane mall.
