here is the A&W in cortland ny

Zayre88

A very old A&W in Quebec City, Canada.  Other locations in the area have been remodeled.  This one used to have the curb service (car hop) canopy.  It has been removed but the central sidewalk remains.

While originally part of the American operation, the Canadian company no longer has any corporate connection to the American A&W chain.

This is now a mix of A&W and Long John Silvers. This is in West Mifflin PA.

Another A&W restaurant in Quebec City, this time a modern location! (blurry picture sorry)

A new A&W opening soon in our local former Dunkin'Donuts.

Opening soon!

Zayre88

Finally open!  I've had a good meal, Chubby chicken, Onion rings and Root Beer.

Our newly opened A&W at night:

The American Logo looks little bit different than the Canadian one.

Just like Woolworth, Safeway, Kmart, and Target in the UK.

There's Target and Kmart in Australia, they never were in the UK.

The closest A&W to me in West Islip, NY closed about two years ago since their lease was up and Stop & Shop wants to renovate their awkward store.

There's a few A&W locations in the Green Bay metropolitan area, which include five located inside Shell or BP gas stations, and one inside the food court at Bay Park Square Mall next to Sbarro, the same shopping mall is anchored by a ShopKo discount store, and the ShopKo corprate headquarters is located right behind it.

The nearest one to me is in Waterbury, CT on East Main Street. It's with a Pizza Hut.  Apparently it's the only one in CT.

The root beer needs to be in a glass mug, it tastes twice as awesome when it is. I have only eaten at A&W once, and it was a combo KFC/A&W in Bridgeton, NJ. Maybe someday I can eat at a traditional drive-in A&W.

Yum Brands is putting A&W and Long John Silver's on the block.  Owners of KFC/A&W combo units must be feeling a bit queasy about this development.  Maybe the Canadian A&W franchisor should buy them - they seem to be thriving up there.

I dont know of any long john silvers near me, there is however a A&W in the food court of cherry hill mall, next to a taco bell.

ynkeesfn82

There's an Taco Bell/Long John Silvers combo on New Britain Avenue in Plainville down the street from The Plainville Commons where Lowe's and AMC Theatre is located. I wonder what will happen with that.

You've got to wonder who is out there to take over struggling franchises like A&W, Long John Silvers or Arby's (which is also on the block.)  Even #2 burger chain Burger King has been through a succession of owners over the years and is still trying to get back on track.

Perhaps not surprisingly, it's franchisees who are taking over the A&W and Long John Silver's franchise operations from Yum Brands.  The new owners face some hard choices, including how to deal with franchisees of units co-branded with franchises no longer owned by the same entity.

The deal is done - A&W is now owned by its franchisees and is no longer the bastard child of Yum! Brands.  Now comes the hard part...

I didn't know that A&W Resturants were still around.

Heck, the only one I'ver ever seen was inside the University Mall in Burlington, VT and they must have close that location nearly 10 years ago.

In Vermont there's still a seasonal drive-in in Middlebury. New Hampshire has a co-branded unit (with KFC) in Salem. Maine had an A&W inside the now-decommissioned Naval Air Station Brunswick. I grew up near the old A&W drive-in on Route 1 in South Portland, ME, not far from where this Robert Hall once stood.

Hudsons81

There's quite a few A&W locations in Metro Detroit and many of them (including my nearest one) still offer drive-in carhop service.

TheFugitive

I recently went to the A&W/LJS store in West Mifflin mentioned above.
They had removed the cool beer-style tap for pouring root beer.
Also served me about the worst tasting cheeseburger I've had in my life.

The A&W on Eureka Road just west of Fort Street in Southgate, Michigan. This one still has drive-in carhop service to this day. This location dates from the 1950's. The roof is not original though, it was added on at some point in the 1970's. It was orange originally, but it was repainted green in 2006 and is now orange again after another repainting job in 2012.

This sucks I really wanted to go there... :(

It wasn't the only A&W to go up in flames this past week...

Yep. This one did too. http://www.thenewsherald.com/articles/2015/07/20/news/doc55adac32e6a3b297045502.txt

Any of you Michigan people know whether the A&W on M-53 in Imlay City is still in business?

That one too had a carhop stand.  Ate a number of lunches there during my
time working at Ames.

The latest was that they will plan to rebuild but probably not open until next year.

Too bad they can't get a tent or maybe a food truck to use for the remainder of the year.

Probably one of those issues of having older buildings, since both seem to be electrical related.

I am at least glad that Southgate will be back up and running very soon, so it seems that Lake George was worse than Southgate.
