Again, I thought there was a post for these - but I didn't see it - so here goes
This is a photo of the Save a Lot Distribution Center in Coxsackie NY (On Route 9W, just off the Thruway Exit 21b). It opened about a year or so ago and is in a new "industrial" park.
This store is in the Troy Plaza on Hoosick Street (Rt 7) in Troy. It was a Price Chopper, closed for a while, then a Midland Foods until they disappeared, and is now split between the Save A Lot and a Salvation Army store.
I remember that being a Price Chopper. Unfortunately I never got a picture of it. This is in the same plaza as the old Ames was. My Dad will be happy about the Salvation Army. Troy did have one in an old Grand Union in Brunswick that closed, so we didn't know anything about a new one.
Here's the Sav-a-Lot on Hartford Ave. in Providence, RI. It occupies half of the former Ames space.

Yeah - that one (Salvation Army) had closed kind of suddenly - don't really know why. Maybe they figured a more city location would work better. Not sure exactly when the SAL/SA combo (hey, wait a minute, who's talking about mexican food here!) opened - must have been farily recent.
The one in Woodlyn, PA closed years ago, but it's still very close to the one in Brookhaven.

It is so amazing the number that for the so many stores mentioned on this site. so many of them have stores in old Ames.
Sav-a-lot is currently building a new store in the former ADAMS/EDWARDS Superfood Store location in the New Brite Plaza in downtown New Britain, Connecticut. Not sure if the one on Allen Street will remain open once the new one opens.

A girl I work with at Walmart told me she went to the New Save-a-Lot in The New Brite Plaza in downtown New Britain, yet Save-a-Lot still doesn't have that store on their website. They still have their original location of 250 Allen Street listed.

The New one in the New Brite Shopping Center in downtown New Britain. Opened a few months ago. The store is open 24/7. Used to be Edwards Super Food Store and most recently an Adam's Super Food Store. Picture take today 10/21/08. Never been to a supermarket where Hispanic Music was blasting from the PA. (Yeah I know New Britain has a large Hispanic Population). The building looks very different from when it was Edwards/Adams. They didn't take the entire space. There is a vacant "luggage" store to the left of Save-A-Lot.

There is a Save-A-Lot that swhares space with Old Country Buffet on Hulmeville & Street Road, in Bensalem ,PA in what used to be Pantry Pride Supermarket, which was half of a J. M. Fields/Pantry Pride-Food Fair combo store, with the J. M. Fields now being a Big Kmart.
The Save-a-Lot in Waterbury, CT looks nice from the outside. No pictures tho. The batteries in my camera died. (I ended up by there because my stupid GPS took me on a scenic tour of Wolcott and Waterbury in order to get to the Brass Mill Mall for a pointless job interview).
Wow. I haven't been here in a while. I used to be known as mikey7290 on here. Anyway, the former P&C Foods in Ogdensburg, NY is being split in half with Save-A-Lot taking half and opening by Labor Day. The other half is rumored to be a Big Lots (no confirmation on that yet.)
My father and I sometimes go to the one in Greensburg,PA. I like Save A Lot because they have decent prices and you don't have to fight through the crowds and stuff like in wal-mart. Plus you get tired going to the same places all the time.

Save-a-lot now charges a quarter to rent their shopping carts just like Aldis does. Stopped at the one in the New Brite Plaza in New Britain yesterday. A buddy of mine says they do the quarter for the shopping carts at the ones in Waterbury too.
I wish they'd come here to Albany I hate having to go all the way to Schenectady for Aldi's and this chain is pretty much the same thing though I wouldn't buy meat from either. I used to like them in Gloversville for all their good food especially their Snowball rip-offs that copy the Little Debbie Sno-Balls that have long since been grocery shrink-rayed to death.

There is a Save a Lot in Albany - on Delaware Avenue as you head towards Delmar.
Also, for an easier to access Aldi from Albany - take the Dunn Memorial Bridge over to Rensselaer - follow the ramp onto 9&20 and it's up 3 lights on your left next to Rite Aid.

Mostly store brands, many with laughable names (at least, I always laugh at 'em!) Quality ranges from poor to fair. Dairy products seem decent enough, and our local one has excellent produce at very good prices. They do have some national brands. Not the kinda place that you could shop for a gourmet supper, that's for sure, due to limited selection.

AFAIK Save-A-Lot does not deal in overstocks but they do have "Special Buy" items on occasion when they can strike a deal on brand name merchandise. The quality of produce and other perishables can vary depending on the licensee but in general I haven't had as much luck with them as I've had in conventional supermarkets. Their pricing on brand name merchandise is generally cost-competitive with Walmart or an EDLP supermarket but doesn't blow them out of the water. The funny names on their own-brand products are derived from Save-A-Lot executives' last names, believe it or not. They've been rolling out a standard "Save-A-Lot Today" rebranding effort for their private label, but it's been a very slow process.
With Save-a-Lot's and Shaw's divorce will there be any ramifications of that? I know that Save-a-Lot was subleasing 1/3 of the former Shaw's in both Manchester and Waterbury, Connecticut from themselves since at the time Save-a-Lot and Shaw's were both under the Supervalu umbrella.
While ownership and management of the divested banners will shift to Albertsons LLC, Supervalu will continue to work closely with them. The divested SVU banners will be supplied by Supervalu, and SVU's private label program will be retained by Shaw's, ACME et al, so you'll still see Essential Everyday, Culinary Circle, Equaline and Shoppers Value products. Cerberus has even offered to buy 30% of SVU and will have seats on SVU's board of directors. It's unclear whether Supervalu will retain ownership interest of the real estate currently controlled by SVU in Connecticut, but even if ownership of those properties shifts to Cerberus I can't imagine it would create much friction given their tight working relationship going forward.

The Save-A-Lot in the Fort-Grove Shopping Center in Wyandotte, Michigan. It occupies 3/4 of a former A&P and later IGA franchisee Danny's Foods (the other 1/4 is occupied by Dollar General). It originally opened in 2002 and was closed for a while in late 2013 and early 2014 for a major remodel.

The store opened in 2010. Sign on the storefront says to shop their Portland, Maine location (which is the closest store to the now-shuttered Sanford operation.) No idea who the owner of this unit was, not that the story is any help in that regard.
To give you an idea what they were up against, there are three Walmart Supercenters and four Market Baskets within a half-hour drive of this store, plus Dollar General has aggressively built stores in York County and Hannaford has built a prototype store in North Berwick. Supervalu really put the squeeze on store operators to the point where they had to raise prices close to what mass discounters typically charge for equivalent product. New corporate owner Onex has a lot of work to do.

Save-a-Lot in Fort Plain is seeing some updates. One wall is black and the odor of paint is noticeable.

Apparently they have - when you put in an Albany area (Rensselaer) zip, the closest one that shows up is the Fort Plain one you reference in the other post.
They had had stores (in addition to this one in Troy) over in Albany (Delaware Ave., which had moved there from the plaza on Broadway in Menands several years ago) and one on lower Central Ave. also in Albany (a former A&P and I believe later Star Market) at least, plus I remember one on Altamont Avenue in Schenectady as well at one time.
