In Langhorne, PA, there is a Michael's store that is DIRECTLY next to an A.C. Moore store! (Not seperated by any other strores in between) I don't know how they both survive or how they both ended up in the same shopping center, but it is something odd to see.

I saw a Help Wanted Ad in yesterday's Hartford Courant that Michael's Arts & Crafts was hiring for their new store opening soon in New Britian, Connecticut. Where are they opening? Near the Westfarms Mall? The former Office Max perhaps?

:insane: Good one!  The logo, i don't like it, it looks like the logo for a french restaurant or an upscale clothing store.

Ans the slogan: Where creativity happens.  Creativity happens at home with the stuff you bought at Michaels!

I always thought this looked like their old logo. This was the only copy I could find. Usually this logo is white on a green background (like Ames).

Although nothing is on their website yet apparently The Michael's in the Newington Commons (Stop & Shop Plaza) at 196 Kitts Lane is moving to the Brickyard Plaza on the Berlin Turnpike in Berlin next to Kohl's. The landlord's website for Brickyard Plaza shows Michael's on it.

That's a shocker. Usually stores move from Berlin over to Newington. I'd miss Michael's at it's current spot. It's been there a long time (since 1996) and is the only original tenant left in that plaza (even before Petco and Party City), same signage and all. Maybe that's why they never remodeled it. What's ironic about the new location in Berlin is that the original JoAnn Fabrics before moving to Newington was in Brickyard Plaza in the building where Supercuts is right now. They occupied the entire building. It seems Newington Commons is really changing. With Planet Fitness opening in the old Office Depot and Michael's moving, along with a Stop and Shop that isn't the most successful, many possibilities are there.

There's a big "coming soon" sign in front of the plaza say they are coming soon.

Someone needs to tell Michael's the meaning of the word soon. They finally opened their new location in The Brickyard Plaza in Berlin next to Home Depot and the new Kohl's today Mach 1, 2015. This replaced the store it the plaza on Kitts Lane (right off the Berlin Turnpike) in Newington, CT.

I have yet to go and see the new store. It looks nice from the outside. It's nice that the town of Berlin gives these businesses a tax abatement. They realize they need to give these establishments an incentive to move down to the quieter part of the turnpike. I am glad to see they have a new tenant for the space next store. I always thought it would be a perfect spot for an Ulta Beauty or something of that nature. I also hope it entices more businesses to consider Webster Square, especially a grocer like ShopRite. Does Wakefern ever open a corporate run location? I'm just so focused on getting a ShopRite down this way. Price Chopper and Stop and Shop are too expensive and Best Market is good for small shopping.

There hasn't been a corporate owned Shoprite in Connecticut in years. The ones in Maryland and up in the Capital District of New York are corporate owned under the name SRS Inc which stands for ShopRite Stores Inc.

And yeah it's kind of strange that there are no Shoprites in New Britain, Berlin, Newington, Wethersfield, Middletown, Cromwell, etc. Of course years ago there were Shoprites in New Britain, Wethersfield, and Middletown. The way I figure at least two more can open. One serving greater New Britain and one serving The Middletown/Cromwell areas.

I think Berlin would be great. They have no competition past Farmington Avenue besides Stop and Shop and that location is average and very prototype. A&P was more expensive than ShopRite is, so it could really be different for them in that plaza. They would get in people from Middletown, Cromwell, Meriden, Rocky Hill, Wethersfield and Newington. I also believe they would do well in the old Shaw's in New Britain. All they have is Stop and Shop and Big Y in that stretch and it's far enough from SR in Southington. I remember 10 years ago, ShopRite was even more sporadic in CT. The closest one was either in Bristol or Meriden. They should realize customers love their low prices and selection. It would give Stop and Shop a run for their money.

Actually a good chunk of the NY stores (outside the city area) are part of that corporate subsidiary - much of that came from what used to be Big V (franchisee) who went into bankruptcy years back.  They had talked of switching to another name or just going "independent", so I think that was what prompted the corporate subsidiary to buy them out/take over (to keep from losing that much business).  They have 32 locations, of which only a handful are in NJ, the rest NY.

Looks like the MD ones are franchised - the main chunk are under Klein's which was an independent chain that decided to affiliate with ShopRite a few years ago.  There are two listed as Village (which has mostly stores in NJ) and one Collins (which has 3 other stores in PA, I believe).
