Title: Popeye's Chicken
Post by: d_fife on July 18, 2005, 04:20:48 PM
Popeye's chicken is another fast food place. THEIR CHICKEN IS TOO SPICEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They closed the one in the PHeasant Lane mall 10 years ago and I heard they closed the one in the Arsenal mall in watertown.

There is one on Rt. 95 on the Resturant area in Kennebunk, near it is TCBY, Burger King and Mobil, and on the other side of the highway is Burger king mobile and Sbarro.

This is one of the 3 locations in the area - this one is in Albany on Central Ave (in plaza with Hannaford, CVS) - across from Westgate.

Fairly small store - limited seating - has been there about 3 or 4 years (give or take).

The others are in Schnectady (State St.) and Troy (Hoosick St.) - this was the original, and for quite some time only, one in the Albany area.

I stopped on my way home and took a photo of this Popeye's restaurant in Troy, NY on route 7.
I haven't seen a Popeye's for years now. There was a location open in Nashua, NH on route 101-A back in the 80's it lasted maybe 3 or 4 years.
Mmmm Mmm,  they had cajun rice, spicy chicken and buttermilk biscuits.
Here's a link to the birds eye view of the former Nashua location, now renovated into a Dunkin Donuts.

  • Street Road, west of Knights Road, in Bensalem, PA
  • The Gallery, lower level, near SEPTA's Market East Station, Philadelphia, PA
  • [/list=1]

Notable Popeyes in the Philadelphia area:

1. Broomall, PA: It opened in 2002 in the corner of Lawrence Park Shopping Center. Was a former Manhattan Bagel.

2. Upper Darby, PA: Almost inside the United Artists theater.

3. Bala Cynwyd: I remember one somewhere around Bala Cynwyd. This one had an interesting "mural" on the outside and the old logo.

4. West Philadelphia: Opened late last year on the site of a former Mobil station. There used to be an older one down the road. It was torn down for an addition to St. Josephs.

5. Southwest Philadelphia: shopping center store, Penrose Plaza.

6. Baltimore: There are several Popeyes in Baltimore. A few have the old logo. One is in the Chesapeake House travel plaza.

I love both Popeye's Chicken as well as Church's Chicken. They are both my favorite fast food chicken restaurants. I used to go to KFC, but I no longer go there now. KFC's quality is low in my opinion. Not only that, but they keep changing their recipes on their green beans. Every couple of years their recipe for their green beans changes. It irritates me that can't find just one recipe that they like and continue with it.

As for Popeye's & Church's Chicken the quality at both places is very high and I love the taste and quality of the food at both places. I have been going to both places since I was 18 right after my graduation in high school and will continue to go to both places to this day.

I do however hope that the Popeye's Chicken in my area continues to stay open and operate, due to the fact that it is the only Popeye's Chicken in my area.
Title: Popeye's Returning to NH
Post by: retailisking on December 26, 2012, 09:47:24 PM
I remember going to Popeye's Fried Chicken in Plaistow, NH back around the time Rally's had a presence in the area. That location went away, but Popeye's never entirely left the region (there was that location at the Kennebunk, ME service area on the Maine Turnpike.) But now they're working their way back to Northern New England for real, starting with this location in Salem, NH that will open in the next few days:
http://www.eagletribune.com/newhampshire/x1746069147/Popeyes-to-open-in-Salem-next-week

Alas, this former KFC was co-branded with A&W, so that's it for the root-beer-and-burgers chain in Maine and NH.

Funny story... I was in Louisiana on vacation a few years ago and found a Cajun seafood restaurant called Poppadeaux, and their logo looked just like the Popeyes logo. Normally who would want their gourmet restaurant associated with a chain of fried chicken joints? I must say Popeyes makes exceptional fried chicken (the spicy is amazing but the mild sucks) along with biscuits and fries, plus a number of desserts. They also sometimes have turkeys during the fall and winter which are not your grandfather's bland turkey for sure!

They hope to be open this summer. They're almost done with the project. Part of the problems is with the state of CT working at a snail's pace on a bridge over West Main Street.

Southington PZC approves Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen for West Street hotel plaza
March 8, 2017 02:28PM
By Jesse Buchanan Record-Journal staff

SOUTHINGTON â€" Planning officials gave a local developer approval Tuesday to add a Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen restaurant to plans for a hotel, bank and medical building on West Street.

The Planning and Zoning Commission unanimously approved the addition of a restaurant to the hotel plaza for 1095 West St. after a public hearing and presentation by Sev Bovino, a planner with Kratzert Jones & Associates in Milldale. No one spoke for or against the plan Tuesday night.

Plans for the hotel and retail area were modified and approved by the commission last year. Bovino received commission approval for the plaza in 2008 but the economic downturn stalled development.
From this section:
Crash closes intersection in Southington

Mark Lovley is developing the property along with Bovino.

Rahman Hashimi, owner of numerous Popeyes restaurants throughout the state, will run the Southington fried chicken franchise. He was drawn to the West Street area due to the traffic and proximity to office buildings across the street and the planned hotel nearby.

Hashimi hopes to open the restaurant in October.

In his presentation to the planning commission, Bovino said the restaurant will have a similar style to other buildings on the site complete with awnings, canopies and a stone veneer.

When commission vice chairman Paul Chaplinsky asked about traffic flow and parking requirements, Bovino said the addition of a restaurant wouldn’t disrupt the development.

“We believe the proposal is in harmony with the development of the area,” he said. “The uses are not detrimental to the area.”

Bovino and Lovley are building a 125-room Courtyard by Marriott at the site across from Executive Boulevard off West Street. The hotel focuses on short-stay family and business travel.

The section of West Street near the Interstate-84 exit has rebounded in the past few years. Businesses have filled the office buildings vacated by The Hartford and a retail plaza is under construction near the Target on the same side of the street. That development will include a Michael’s, HomeGoods and a Chip’s Restaurant.

I think the locations in places like a truck stop are generally franchised to the owners of that (whatever chain, in this case TA, it looks like?) so probably not impacted by other locations in the area.

I'm not sure if this is representative of the company as a whole or just my area but popeyes has spent a lot of money in the past few years in Maryland remodeling their stores and better training their employees. I remember a lot of their stores were outdated and run down and now it's just the opposite they look clean and brand new also right after they remodeled a few of their stores a few of the kfc's have shutdown.
