Title: I hate retail stores!
Post by: storehistoryguy on June 29, 2005, 09:22:22 AM
Not that I hate them, its just that its annoying that families shop there for themselves. Its for stores who want to buy stuff in large quantities! Plus you have to join there "club" or as I call it, a cult. Go to the supermarket! Unless you own a store, don't shop at Sam's Club or Costco or BJ's Wholesale! Go to Acme!

BJ's is great!  Great bakery and an excellent meat department!

LOL those never lasted

I like going to dollar stores and 99 cent stores an 5 & 10s and closeout stores and yard sales/garage sales and flea markets.

I hate Home Depot and Wal Mart everything else I can get along with.

I especially like Target!

I'm talking about stores like Sam's Club and Costco and BJ's Wholesale. There annoying. They're gigantic. You have to pay to shop there (how rediculous!) and you buy large quantities of things. I understand a store owner, someone who owns like a 711 going to buy products for there store in large quantities, but now families are starting to go their! Hey, ever hear of this place called a supermarket where you don't buy a gallon of ketchep for four people!!

Bj's Wholesale has been less and less appealing to me. Their prices have slowly crept up on everything since they opened and gas prices are only a penny or 3 than the nearby Wawa. I will probably not renew my membership when it is up at the end of August.

Yes, membership was only like $30 for 15 months so I figured "why not"?

There is no way I would ever pay to shop somewhere. If I were to everything in the store should be free.

I will not shop at a store where I have to pay to join and then pay more for items. Look at it in the long run, easier to go to the Stop & Shop or K-mart. Plenty of discount places for tires, books, electronics, etc. These wholesale clubs are meant for large clans like the Waltons, not just yours truly with one cat.

Ok, here's my deal. Every once in a while, in the magazine section of the Sunday paper, they have a coupon for 1 day shopping at Sam's Club. If I plan to go there, I'll make sure to use that coupon. I've never "paid to shop" at Sam's Club. It's pretty neat. When I lived with Mummy, we used to go to Price Club. Let me tell you, those giant cans of ravioli....delish!!! Mummy would get the 3 gallons of milk, because we had 2 babies in the house and needed it, plus we were ALL coffee drinkers. Also, the HUGE packs of Bagel Bites, chicken patties, salisbury steaks, and 12 packs of macaroni and cheese, these were all things Mummy got every month when she shopped there. The rest of the time we went to Pathmark, ShopRite, FoodTown and Grand Union. Oh,...and Bradlees. I miss childhood.

Back to my original point, if you want to shop at Sam's or Costco or whatever, look for those coupons for a 1 day shopping trip. Make your list, and enjoy your day. I'm sure as hey not paying to shop if I have to pay such prices for food anyway...

These stores are not exactly retail, they're wholesale. Like you say, they're supposed to be there to benefit small business. Too bad there is no small business left anymore.

I prefer to shop at my locally owned IGA Stores. There is no way that I would shop at a big box store that you have to pay to get a membership just to shop there.

My preferred grocery stores:

1st Place: IGA Stores
2nd Place: Kroger's (Too bad there are no longer any Kroger's Supermarkets in the northern half of the state that I live in. They left this area back in the 1960's/70's which was before my time.)
