MERIDEN â€" Vitamin World, which has several locations in Connecticut, including the Westfield Meriden mall, plans to file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.

The Holbrook, New York-based company’s chief executive officer told Reuters its goal is an early exit of leases for a number of stores.

Vitamin World has 345 stores, including locations in Meriden , Trumbull, Milford and Danbury.
According to Westfield marketing manager Katherine Bolas, the stores in Trumbull and Meriden are open for business.

Vitamin World was founded in 1976 and sold to Centre Lane Partners in February 2016.

“This action will empower us to move forward as a stronger organization that can and will continue to service our millions of loyal customers with premium offerings via retail and online channels,” CEO Michael Madden told Reuters.
