Title: Ann Taylor, Loft, Dress Barn, Lane Bryant, Justice - At least 268 stores closing
Post by: giantsfan2016 on June 12, 2017, 08:56:23 PM
FROM CLARK.COM (the website of Consumer Advocate Clark Howard)

Ascena Retail Group, the women’s clothing retailer that owns the brands Ann Taylor, Loft, Dress Barn, Lane Bryant, Justice and several others, is planning to close hundreds of stores.

During a recent earnings call, company executives announced that 667 stores are part of its fleet optimization program.

At least 268 of those stores will definitely be closed by July of 2019. The remaining 399 stores will be shut down if rent concessions aren’t obtained through negotiations with landlords.

The company didn’t specify which locations will be closed.

Boy, THERE'S an Orwellian euphemism for you!

Not coincidentally, Fleet is a brand of enema.

I noticed the Middletown, CT Dress Barn location has closed. Not sure how long ago that happened.

As I've said on the Reinventing the brick and mortar retail industry thread about Justice and how the tween girls clothing store chain is losing business, I quote this:

QuoteIf Justice had low prices everyday and not have so many 30%-50% sales, Justice would have more sales without people waiting for a sale or a money saving coupon and maybe people would be willing to settle to buy brand spanking new tween girls clothes from Justice in lieu of buying Justice branded clothing second hand from thrift stores and ebay for less than what Justice is asking for price wise.
