Title: Firehouse Subs
Post by: giantsfan2016 on May 26, 2017, 03:51:25 PM
Firehouse Subs is a chain of sub sandwich shops founded in 1994 by two firefighter brothers. A portion of their profits go towards buying equipment for first responders.

The second Connecticut location of Firehouse Subs is opening in Bristol. It will be located in the Pier One Plaza across Rote 6 from the Stop & Shop anchored Bristol Plaza. Federal Realty owner of the plaza has overhauled the plaza. In addition to Pier One, the plaza just added a Pet Valu (in the former Payless Shoes, which opened a super store in the plaza across the street) and Kay Jeweler's, which opened in part of the space formerly occupied by office space for CVS (and a long time before that Shawmut Bank and before that an electronics store).

The only one that I know of is in a very strange location.

It is in a shopping center in Peters Township, about 20 miles south of Pittsburgh.
At one time this was the home of Festival Foods, a very large warehouse-sized discount
grocery store.  Plus a number of other retailers.

Festival bailed out, and most of the shopping center became empty.  The vacant
stores were snapped-up by West-Penn Allegheny Health Center, which put a number
of different medical practices in those spaces.  It is literally like a "Wellness Mall"
(and quite bizarre looking!)  OB-GYN in one storefront, Ear, Nose and Throat in another,
Osteopath in the next, etc.

The only non-medical tenants left are a natural foods store, Firehouse Subs, and a bar!
And right next-door is a gigantic non-denominational megachurch.

Church service, sub, cocktails and colonoscopy, all at one convenient location!

I would eat here more if they didn't keep raising their prices. Their subs are phenomenal.

Just over three months later and construction hasn't even started. (Mom and I went to Pier One on Monday). Just a banner saying coming soon.

They closed both Connecticut locations after less than 2 years open - first the one in Bristol and then the one in Glastonbury a few weeks later. There's a rumor the Bristol one may reopen under new ownership.

We lost both Allentown and Reading for the second time in the span of six months. Reading looks like they walked out and never came back, still stuff in the store.
