I was looking through the Michigan page on the store locator.
I noticed some Ames locations that never actually existed, like
Oscoda (which was planned, but never opened) and Muskegon
(which honestly I don't recall even being at the discussion stage).
There is one store that I am almost certain existed that is not mentioned anyplace.
This was an acquired Zayre store somewhere in Kalamazoo. It did not stay open
very long as an Ames (none of them did, the whole enterprise crashed and burned
pretty quickly). But I am 99% certain it was there, at least for a time.
From some initial research I think the location may have been 5115 Portage Rd.,
Portage, MI 49002 (Portage being one of the more fortunate suburbs of K'zoo.).
Anyone out there have any info on this?
When I get time I plan to dig through some junk in my attic and see if perhaps I have
an old store listing or anything mentioning this location.

I got the address from an EPA report on a "toxic spill event" that occurred when it was a Zayre store.
Today that would be one heck of a large MedExpress clinic.
It was Zayre then Ames then Became builders square. That's why the building looks like that.
