Post by: Pikapower on March 07, 2016, 04:06:02 PM
Discuss about the now defunct Six Flags New Orleans theme park which was destroyed in 2005 by Hurricane Katrina.

Thanks for posting this. I'm going to give some links here of recent videos of people exploring it when it became abandoned.

The video makers are "professional" abandoned building explorers and if you liked that video then I Recommend watching more and subscribing! My "hook video" was the abandoned bowling alley

It's a shame that Six Flags abandoned the park after Hurricane Katrina destroyed it and I don't think that Six Flags no longer owns the land the SFNO was on anymore.

You can still find at least two of Six Flags New Orleans' rides at Six Flags Fiesta Texas (Batman: The Ride, now known as Goliath) and the twin drop towers at The Great Escape.

Six Flags New Orleans is the Dixie Square of theme parks. The place is a dead, decaying mess, with faded signs, broken-down rides and non-functioning attractions.

As much as everyone would like to see places restored and returned, one has to wonder if in this case the Six Flags people were the smart ones not to spend all the $ to restore it with a constant threat of the same thing happening again due to the location?

A second hurricane hit New Orleans, Hurricane Rita, shortly after Hurricane Katrina. I'm guessing that's why they decided to sell Six Flags New Orleans back to the city.

It's sad that after Hurricane Katrina, Six Flags just abandoned their New Orleans park. Frankly I thought that New Orleans would have been a great place for a major theme park. :(

This would not have been such a problem if our 43rd president would have done something to help the hurricane-ravaged city.

Instead, "W" did less to help the New Orleans citizens and more to hinder them.

It also didn't help that the park was unprofitable.

Part of the Problem with Six Flags New Orleans is that it was not located in a tourist area.

Neither is Darien Lake, but Six Flags didn't close Darien Lake down and abandoned it like they did with Six Flags New Orleans.

But Darien Lake didn't have a massive hurricane hit it too.

True, but at least Darien Lake is still open on a seasonal basis.

Much of what's left of Six Flags New Orleans (formerly Jazzland) consists of a bunch of dilapidated buildings covered in graffiti, as well as a bunch of rusted-up roller coasters and other rides surrounded by gator-filled swamps.

There's at least one ride from Six Flags New Orleans that is still operating, Batman: The Ride which is now at Six Flags Fiesta Texas as "Goliath". Speaking of Six Flags Fiesta Texas, one of their roller coasters "The Joker's Revenge" which operated from 1996 to 2001 was relocated to Six Flags New Orleans and was left for dead with the rest of SFNO.
