Title: Stores opening/stores closing in the next few years
Post by: Retail Fan+ (Justin Hill) on February 16, 2016, 08:04:40 PM
OPENING

*Meijer - expanding into new parts of the American Midwest with their superstore this year and the years to come. Expansions have been planed for Illinois and Wisconsin, with future stores planned for The U.P. of Michigan and a possible expansion into Minnesota.
*Shopko - Not much to expect from them this year, except big renovations for their existing big box locations.
*Shopko Hometown - Shopko was successful in merging with Pamida in 2012, they converted most of the Pamida stores to Shopko Hometown, while closing selling off a few Pamida store locations to other retailers. Shopko Hometown expanded into newer smaller communities when they purchased some former ALCO store locations in states as far down as Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona.
*Costco Wholesale membership warehouse will open many new locations in the future, including one in Appleton, Wisconsin, as well as Manitowoc, Wisconsin.

CLOSING

*Kmart/Big Kmart/Super Kmart - Expect more store closings in the years to come.
*Sears/Sears Grand - Like Kmart, another store that is struggling. It won't be long before Sears (as well as the previously-mentioned Kmart) closes.
*JCPenney - Expect a few of their stores to close this year (and the next).
*Macy's - Another struggling department store. Expect them to close some stores this year (and the next).
